Anyone notice the weird call in Bellator tonight?
Akop Stepanyan had a pt deducted for holding the fence before they even moved from their corners to engage for the 3rd round
I assume it was for something he did at the end of the 2nd round, but why didn't they remove the pt then. I assume since the ref made the call in the 3rd round the pt would be deducted then.
I thought UFC reffing and judging was bad...that was ridiculous.

Timing was bizarre. I liked that he deducted the point though. Too many refs warn repeatedly, and do nothing.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Very weird timing on the point deduction but I agree with it. The guy was grabbing the fence repeatedly and it saved him from being dumped in the 1st round, which pissed me off.

Yeah first time I saw a delayed point deduction as well. The fight in question should have been a draw tho. I don't think Sandro did enough to win that chit.

I think the point deduction came at the beginning of the round for TV reasons. They have to go straight into commercial after the round, so the beginning of the next round was the best time to announce it for the fans at home.

I could have my fights from Saturday mixed up, but that was why I was annoyed with the scores for Fitch vs Maia. Kim warned Fitch at least 3 times about grabbing the fence, but no point deduction.

Fence grabbing has been a major issue for long time. I have seen fights where guys have grabbed the fence at least 7 times with only warnings. It really effects a fighters ability to take down a fighter that does this and because of this it should be a truly enforced rule and not just warnings given.

Exactly. He was warned. And could have kept him from being submitted.

It actually would have gone to a forth round in the event of a draw. Tourney format. I think there should have been a 4th. It was close though
If it wasn't for the deduction Sandro still would have won a split decision.

I'm aware...although when it comes to Referee's the more experienced ones tend to handle all of the UFC's main card fights, while a local ref or 2 will get to work on the undercard. I haven't seen Herb Dean in a Bellator cage ever, it seems the UFC gets all the experienced guys while Bellator makes due with local officials.
I also don't think the ref was wrong to take the point, I just thought the way it was handled was very confusing and amateurish.
