Bellator's Rick Hawn lost to Michael Chandler last Thursday in a title fight. Hawn, an Olympian in judo, was submitted in the second round. The fight was a part of Bellator's first broadcast on Spike, and was viewed by just under a million viewers.

Still, Hawn says one of his sponsors wasn't happy his performance, and stopped his check...

Sounds like breach of contract. Hawn should get his money.

This "businessman" should understand that screwing people over is worse business than sponsoring a world class athlete that just happened to lose his fight.

Hope Hawn wins the lawsuit and hurts the sponsor more than the loss did.

Edit: P$ said it better.

The sponsor is speculated to be HTFU Lifestyle

Jeremy Stephens statement from the UG, HTFU definitely seems like the guilty party
UG Commenter
HeHitsMeBecauseHeLovesMe – What’s really fucked up about this is that Rick didn’t even lose THAT bad, that was like an average loss. Htfu also sponsors Jeremy Stephens, I wonder if they gave him trouble when he lost his last fight.

Jeremy Stephens response
NO!!!! He does NOT sponsor me and never did!

He was “supposed” to but he canceled after the pictures, social media post, etc. Why? Because not enough was posted about him on twitter/facebook and a picture posted of the fight worn UFC shorts, which he couldn’t sponsor because he wouldn’t pay the sponsor tax… OR PAY ANYONE AT ALL! So it was just a waste of time because we waited for a long time for that money to come through (when it was needed big time).

He has been asked over and over to take the pictures down and he refuses to. He likes to argue really bad so it’s a waste of time.

Dirty scumbag.

I'm guessing this is from the sponsor.

"I will not comment on Rick and his fight. That is not my place. But what I will tell you is this: I took a huge chance with him. TV exposure was great…but it only holds weight if he wins or puts on a good show. Neither happened. At the end of the day…not one sole (sp) will run to [my] store and buy product because they [saw my logo and saw] Rick loose (sp) the fight. I've made it my career and business to know what nets a return on investment for the brand…and this is the number 1 reason why I DO NOT hand out money or product to fighters."

Really? Can't get the difference between lose and loose and you're running a business?

I guess good luck with any future business after all this BS. You can't just sponsor winners.

That's the catch. Due to the lawsuit, he isn't saying. I bet with a little detective work it might be narrowed down though. Or maybe, the dude opens up an MMA news site today and has a change of heart.

edit: Here is what we know. It was one of his main sponsors, which translates into large real-estate on his clothing that night. He references wearing their product, so it's clothing or gear. And as of him making the comment, his picture was still on the sponsors website...that could have changed by now.

Rumor is it's HTFU. Don't treat that as fact though.

Wait what?!? That defies sponsorship theory for virtually EVERY sport. If the Yankees LOOSE a home game while Doritos logos are spinning behind the plate, will Doritos claim their sponsorship was meaningless because of the loss? What about Nascar? If this claim held weight you would see a lot more blank cars and probably a bunch more Honda Civics as nobody would have the money up front to start a team or buy the suped up cars. Sponsorship in a public arena IS exposure, that's it. If he keeps loosing, then stop sponsoring him after the fact, as the exposure may decrease.

Poor Rick Hawn was saying he was having trouble finding sponsors before his Chandler fight & now one of the few he found is being a complete waste of life. Goodluck Rick! I hope you sue the fuck outta this douche.

Don't see Hawn on the site with the other athletes section. I do see Stephens on there.

I saw that it was reported that the sponsor has issued a new check to Hawn, so he should be getting paid.
