White: Tito didn’t want to fight Forrest

On Saturday, UFC president Dana White continued his campaign of trying to kill the credibility of one of his biggest draws, Tito Ortiz.

According to Iole, White tried to match Ortiz up with Forrest Griffin when they first began putting together the card for UFC. Ortiz declined.

“Tito didn’t want to come over here, the big sissy,” White said.

Forrest said after yesterday’s win over Hector Ramirez that he would welcome a rematch.

Man, i hate tito ortiz, first he didn't want to fight chuck, i dont like tito at all, and at UFC 59 Reality Check, I think forrest griffin won that fight, defiently the first round went to tito but after that, Forrest Dominated, ovoiding take downs and throwing punches. Forrest Griffin won that fight!!! i really want to see those two fight again. and i hope Forrest knocks him out!!!

Forrest is an overrated can and Tito screwed up because Rashad is definitely a worse match up for him...after Rashad is done with Tito no more conversations about this loser.

Why would he want to fight Forrest? He beat him decisively last time, and if you can't see that then you're letting distaste for Tito cloud your judgement. Go back and keep track of takedowns, punches LANDED, and control and there is only one round that Forest takes. It would be a lose-lose fighting Forest, he wins and you would complain about him not fighting anyone good, he loses and you would say he shouldnt be fighting at all. Fighting Rashad is a better career move for him, it's not like he's scared of Forrest. When he pounds out a young hotshot like Rashad, he's going to look more deserving of a title shot

First of all iam not your buddy dumbass. Second Tito takes first round arguably 10-8, Forrest takes second 10-9, Tito takes third easily 10-9 even Forrest agrees. Third i didnt mean winning against Rashad automatically makes him deserving of a title shot, just puts him into the picture more than beating Forrest again. Fourth Tito matches up well against most the fighters you listed. He would enjoy a good size advantage against hendo, already beat wandy (i know a long time ago), could most likely take shogun down at will overeem and nakamura... are you serious? Fifth, he fought a bad fight against Cote over three years ago and still won. I'll bet everything on Tito this fight. And sixth to answer your question: i live in a world where i don't have to put up with over-opinionated pricks like you

Actually Tito had no trouble against Cote, and it's pretty obvious you are talking about something you are completely ignorant of. Cote was actually scheduled to fight Marvin Eastman, also a light-heavyweight, before the UFC asked him to take the fight with Tito Ortiz on short notice.

Second, I have posted a long thread in here that explains a punch by punch recap of the forest and tito fight. I made the case that Tito actually won all three rounds because he outboxed forrest the entire fight. As a summary to that fight, Forrest actually missed most of his punches and most of the punches that did land on Tito hit his elbow or hand while he was blocking. On the other hand Tito landed nearly every single punch he threw, and many were hard to see on camera because the majority of the camera work was shown from behind Tito. The only way a viewer could see his quick stiff jabs and counter punches were if they put the fight in slow motion and saw the fist hit Forrest in the face. It completely explains why at the end of the fight Tito's face looked the same as when he walked in to that fight. And it also explains why after round 2 and 3 Forrest still needed to have his face wiped down from all the blood and cuts.

Now Tito may not be in the Top 5 light heavies in the world right now, but that is going to change after he beats rashad and gets a fight against either Shogun, Henderson, Jackson, or Silva. I can't blame him for not wanting to fight Forrest. There is absolutely no gain in it for him. If he loses then he loses to a mediocre fighter, if he wins then he beat a fighter who has been losing his ass. The reaction would be worse then what people say about his wins against Shamrock.

Hell, I think a great fight would be bewteen Shamrock and Griffin.

I'd also like to point out that you guys are going nuts over some small little quote that doesn't even explain the reasons why he didn't want to fight Forrest. From the quote it sounded more like it was an issue of fighting overseas, not fighting against Forrest. You guys need to get a grip.

As did all of those guys I mentioned, they must've had their eyes on the floor during the fight, not you. Tito will not beat Rashad, so whatever point you attempted to make and failed, it's mute. I think Forrest is a can, I like Tito more then Forrest and also think he's a better fighter, but I thought he lost that night. Enjoy a good size advantage vs Hendo?? Randy Couture dominated Tito, I know he's bigger then Hendo, but Hendo is a way better striker and has better wrestling then Tito. Shogun?? Are you serious?? How did Ricardo Arona (a better wrestler and BJJ guy then Tito) do vs Shogun?? It doesn't matter if he could take Shogun down or not, he would get lumped on his feet, outhustled and embarassed on the ground, and that fight would be over. Overeem is extremely tall and has a decent sprawl, Tito could work a decision, but if it stayed standing longer then 3 minutes Tito would get knocked out. Nakamura would outstrike Tito standing and use his judo to offset Tito's wrestling. He also has better subs then Tito. Yes he fought a bad fight against Cote, and he fought a bad fight against Forrest, and get knocked out by Liddell. So what has Tito done?? Exactly. You can bet everything all you want, you're an ignorant fan. Rashad has way better wrestling, way better striking, is bigger and stronger, and the only edge Tito has is reach and subs. Tito won that fight. If you don't agree well that's opinion, but if you re-watch the fight in slow motion hit for hit, Tito won that fight standing and on the ground. A lot of people don't know that because they saw forrest throw a lot of dirty punches. I think one of the main reasons people think Forrest won the stand up is due to the announcers. They were saying things that weren't actually happening. For example Rogan mentions big rights and combinations that Forrest lands but if you turn down the sound and put those exchanges in slow motion you can actually see Forrest landing nothing and Tito answering with stiff jabs. I have a feeling that the Judges saw what I saw and that Rogan and Goldie saw what everyone from PPV saw. I don't blame people for having this view because the majority of the camera work was on Tito's back so it was real hard to see his stiff jabs and counter punches, but they were definitely there. As for his fight against Cote, it's almost like none of you actually saw the fight. Here's some advice... get a subscription to UFC.com and rewatch it. Tito easily defeated Cote, he decisively beat Forrest, he decisively beat Shamrock in all three fights, he decisively beat Silva, he decisively beat belfort as well. And I'd like to point out that Silva, overall has not dramatically changed in his skills since his fight with Tito. His BJJ was just as solid as it is to this day but he couldn't handle the pure strength and wrestling Tito brought to the table. You people want to say the Arona is a better wrestler and submission artist than Tito? I agree he may be the better submission artist but wrestling don't mean dick unless you put sting on it like Tito and Couture do. Not many people know this but Tito competed and did quite well in the Abu Dhabi submission Tournaments, even getting a win over Matt Hughes. If you think some submission specialist is going to come in and catch Tito with an armbar or a triangle choke or a ankle lock you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Tito is known for ability to attack from the guard. He is more than happy to push his opponents into the corners of the cage where he prevents them from getting any kind significant hold on him. He stays close to the body of the opponent where he lifts briefly to elbow the hell out of his oponent until the are senseless like Forrest was in round one. My point? Not Shogun, not Nog, not Silva, not Henderson is going to ever pull a sub on Tito. The only argument that can be made is that Tito's standup is average and that a far superior traditional wrestler can out wrestle him. Anything else is going to lose.

Well, this doesn't surprise me. It seems the only people Tito is willing to fight are old and out of shape, and called Ken Shamrock. He even ducked Dana!

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of hearing about him. I think he got lucky in the fight against Forrest when the judges went for him. If points were awarded for trying to finish (Pride cough cough) Tito would have lost imo.

I get a feeling now Evans will blow through him. Rashad is looking to slay Tito and continue with his winning streak. Mind you, it's lose/lose for Rashad in a way too. If he beats Tito, sure, he has beat "a name", but it seems that the MMA fans are very aware that beating Tito isn't really a big thing anymore...

why would tito take the fight. he beat him already and beating rashad will push him that much closer to a title shot. if forrest wants a rematch have him earn it by beating some top guys and then give them a rematch.

i think that fight should have been called a draw with the first round obiviously being tito and the second clerly to forrest and the third round being way to close to call with Tito getting that takedown but forrest landing good shots from the bottom and then getting up that fight should have had another round

Tito was smart in not taking that fight. Now he has a chance against a better fighter who he hasn't fought yet. This is his chance to re-establish himself in the Light Heavyweight division.
