Taking a tuneup fight with a regional promotion is a risky move for any fighter under Zuffa contract, and UFC lightweight Daniel Downes nearly demonstrated why.

An import from the World Extreme Cagefighting merger, the 25-year-old Roufusport product had not fought since WEC 53 in December, when he became the first man to top Chinese prospect Tiequan Zhang. Still without a date for his Octagon debut, Downes competed Friday night under the North American Fighting Championship banner at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino Expo Center in Milwaukee, and found himself in danger early against Tory Bogguess, a lesser-known veteran of the Midwest circuit.

Ok, here's what I envisioned for this thread....

User: Man pmoney, what a good scoop! I was really wondering if that young prospect Danny Downes' big gamble was going to pay off!

pmoney: Thanks user, I thought that was a ballsy move by Downes. Do you think that will raise his stock with Zuffa, lower it, or could it stay the same?

User: Golly, what a great question pmoney. One the one hand, it's a regional show. He had already fought his way into the WEC and pulled off the huge upset against Zhang. He was waiting for his crack at the UFC. You are only risking your job! On the other hand, Downes apparently overcame adversity and got the first round finish. How could that not raise your stock?

pmoney: Great insight user, I can't wait for Downes' UFC debut!

Lol, well done pmoney.

I don't see Downes going far in the ufc to be honest. The fight was probably not the best idea to take but I completely understand it. A young kid in mma should be active. That and I'm sure he could use the extra cash he got from headlining that show. In my mind his stock stays the same.

Man, what a poignant insight Budgellism! I love your fresh take on the UFC goings-on! And I would concur with your assessment that his stock would stay the same. He is in for a tough test even if he lands a bottom 25 match up at the Lightweight division.
