James Toney is set to defend his IBA heavyweight title on Nov. 5 in New Orleans, but he's not done with MMA.

Toney made that decision in the locker room of Boston's TD Garden moments after UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture tapped him out with an arm-triangle choke three minutes into his first real taste of the sport at UFC 118.

"They might have won the battle, but the war ain't over yet," recalled John "Pops" Arthur, Toney's trainer of 12 years, of the boxing champion's words after the fight.

Of course, a lot of MMA fans breathed a sigh of relief.

"I said, 'Whatever you do, don't stand in front of the kid because the kid's going to try and take you down,'" Arthur recalls. "[He's] going to take that lead leg. That's what he did."

I may be the only one, but I'm kind of glad to see him not just quit on it like that.

Oh, no...he won't quit. He'll fight for some po'dunk promototion, get a win over Joe Blow and then proclaim he was right all along...boxing (or James Toney) can not be beaten by this sport full of half-naked guys dry humping each other.

A loss to couture sure put him right into the Strikeforce title picture.

I'd say it's actually better for MMA in the longrun that toney stays, because any halfass wrestler can take him down, based on his td defense. Beyond that, Couture was landing some brutal GnP. Toney's ground game still doesn't exist, and until it does, he won't win in MMA.

Im glad hes coming back for more punishment. Give him the worst guy in the ufc and watch him get schooled, again.
I would imagine dana would never take him back, but he cant beat any UFC hw I can think of.
I think kimbo would beat him easily.
