Did Bendo seriously fight last night with a toothpick in his beak?? Here's the pic and a video of Dana talking about it.

Crazy.

Apparently he fights with a toothpick in his mouth for every fight.

I'd be willing to bet it's the last time he does it, too.

Punished? No. But he should be explicitly told not to do it again.

I wonder if it was flavored?

cinnamon?
mint?

I don't think he should be punished. He's putting himself at risk, not his opponent.

No punishment but his belly button is making me sick

How are opponents not at risk? Someone could easily get their eye poked out in the heat of the moment.

Heads clash all the time man, it would only take one to puncture an eye. It needs to stop imo.

it's a foreign object!

i say he should be fined and they should go back and look at all his fights in the UFC and any fight he has a toothpick in his mouth be fined for it too. thats the stupidest thing i've seen a fighter do.

ands about his bellybutton, thats a weird one, 1/2 innie 1/2 outie

Why would he ever think fighting with a toothpick is okay? It's a risk to both him and his opponent.

everyone that loses the LW title gets an immediate rematch anyways. let's punish him by forcing him to fight Diaz again. I'd love to see Nate get 50/45'd again.

in all seriousness, he shouldnt be punished, but he should be told that he will be punished if he ever does that again.

as a fighter, YES he should be punished in some way. i would be pissed if i found out my opponent was fighting with a sharp object in his mouth. screw him, im worried my eyes. i like bendo but thats stupid to fight with a damn toothpick. maybe an ass chewing or a small fine would get the message across.

I have no problem with it. I think its getting a little blown outta proportion. I knew about this awhile ago and never gave it another thought

This.

Is there a specific reason he fights with one?

If an NFL player had an eye injury which took 3 years to heal from a flag being thrown, I'm thinking a fighter could get a similar injury from a toothpick. I could be wrong.

I'm sure its possible, but considering his job has him being punched in the eye on a regular basis, that's a far greater risk for an eye injury.

I also think its a far greater risk to himself than to anyone else. He's wearing a mouthpiece and the toothpick would be behind it. He'd need to have the mouthpiece knocked out then clash heads with someone while having the toothpick sticking out of his mouth with an end lodged in his teeth and then have the other end hit an eye to cause an injury to his opponent. I think the odds of that happening are about as likely as one of the fighters being struck by lightning.

In the future take it away from him as its a choking hazard, but otherwise no discipline is necessary.

I did not vote, but I will say that I am NOT a fan of the toothpick.

strip him of the belt, overturn the decision so Edgar is the champion
