ok, so i stumbled onto tony bonello's record on sherdog today when i was looking up james lee.. he is 15-0 with 14 submissions, and not a SINGLE match went past the first round.. then i found a video of bonello vs lee, and i was so impressed that i looked up more videos on bonello.. i had heard this guys name, but never seen him fight.. and all i can say after seeing a few of these videos.. is wow..

so i guess consider this my research on tony bonello, passed onto you.. every one of these videos is impressive and worth a look if you havent heard of him or havent seen him fight..

Tony Bonello vs Mansour Heidari

Tony Bonello vs James Lee

Tony Bonello vs Dan Severn

Tony Bonello vs Mike Lingskog

Tony Bonello vs Keigo Kunihara

Tony Bonello vs Mike Seal

Tony Bonello vs Ken Fuller (Pancrase 2001 haha)

here is one from feb 4th 2007 that isnt even on his sherdog fight finder yet.. so i guess technically he is 16-0 with 15 submissions.. i dont know this guys name, but his last name is parr and he goes by JWP

Tony Bonello vs JWP

this guy really impressed me.. he has an impeccable ground game, great takedowns, takedown defense, striking.. hes got high kicks.. hes got good hands..

maybe im behind on the times, but i had never seen this guy fight.. he could easily be a huge threat at 205 to anybody.. hopefully he starts fighting in a bigger show than KOTC this year..

Wow good find!

He seems really good against the opponents he faces but some guys on youtube keep calling him a fraud. Why is that? Has he been in any worked matches?

btw. That throw Severn did on him was awesome granted it looked to be a weight difference of about 40 pounds.

yea i noticed that too, and im not sure why they called him 'tony the fraud'.. maybe there was a controversial match before or something like that, but im not sure.. from all those videos i watched, none of them looked to be worked.. all i know is what ive seen of him, i was impressed.. so i will definately be keeping a close eye on this guy..

and i agree, the severn throw was sweet.. i wasnt expecting it haha

Wow. That Belly to Belly was fricking awesome. Too bad its just a throw and he didnt hold onto him to gain a better position.

Nothing definate, but some could've been worked. Some of those guys just fell into subs. Completely ignorant or worked, I'm not sure

Give it up to Dan. Still wearing the same outfit from 10 plus years ago and still pulling off his signature moves. He is like the C level gate keeper. haha.... Dan will always be a favorite!

I wish I could watch these at work, but alas I'll have to wait for another couple of hours...

I was reading the other thread where you had mentioned him as well and started checking him out too (just what I can read) because I've never heard of him either... It's hard to tell with guys that fight in KOTC because there is such a huge gap between the good fighters and the poor ones (kinda like communism)

Good post though, always good to get a heads up about up rising talent especially in LHW (that would be my weight class, so it tends to interest me a little more)

hm.. i guess i should have done a little more research into these fraud claims before making this post.. ill try to get to the bottom of it and find out what the deal is..

if he is doing worked fights, sorry for reporting it guys..

They don't look worked to me. Just unskilled guys fighting a guy with good jits. Kinda like Royce vs early UFC guys. I'm not saying he is as good or dominant as Royce was in his time obviously. Just pointing out if you don't have JJ and someone else does you are at a extreme disadvantage. I know a guy from my gym who fought on KIng of the cage in San jacinto, CA and I couldn't beleive it was legal or allowed. He had wrestled in High school 8 years before, and wasn't even good then. Had no standup training , weighed 300lbs( very little muscle), and fought a 40 year old guy who I guess used to be a boxer. Talk about boring LnP decisions. I think the first MMA death will come in a unsanctioned casino event.

alright here is all the information i was able to come up with..

from what i can tell, the 'tony the fraud' title and the talk of worked fights is just that, talk.. ive found a couple sites where people talk of him and they say how he is 'obviously' working his fights.. but its all people saying dumb things like 'I SAW HIM PRACTICING THE FINISH WITH HIS OPPONENT BEFORE THE FIGHT' and things like that that have no credibility at all, just peoples words.. there is no real evidence or anything that he has worked fights..

he had a fued with elvis sinosic back a while ago, because apparently elvis ducked out of fighting him 3 or 4 times and so he wore a shirt to an event that said 'elvis sinosic is a spineless bitch'.. so maybe some of the talk is coming from fans of elvis who are bitter or something and wanting to ruin his name..

the guy JWP in his february fight stands for john wayne parr, who is an established and accomplished muay thai fighter.. now it could just be me, but i dont believe an accomplished muay thai fighter would make the transition to MMA just to participate in worked fights.. nor do i find it likely that there are that many MMA fighters out there who would voluntarily lose a fight.. nobody likes losing

another thing is technique.. in the video of bonello vs mansour heidari, notice this.. as heidari lifts bonello up to slam him, on the way down bonello is already pulling his right leg up to set up the triangle choke.. as soon as it hits the ground, the choke is basically in.. i think its like hippysmacker said, alot of cases of a guy with great JJ fighting a guy with little or no JJ..

the only other thing ive heard is that the guy is extremely cocky.. but that has nothing to do with working fights..

plus on a side note, i think most refs/judges would catch SOMETHING in his 16 fights if they were worked.. i mean, the brian ebersole/shannon ritch fight was viewed as a work because ebersole used the cartwheel guard pass..

thats about all i could come up with for now.. guy seems legit to me

Sounds like a Diego Sanchez case. "The guy is too greased up, he's too one-dimensional and will get exposed bla bla bla bla"

People don't like too cocky fighters and neither do I but I don't think personality and skill is the same thing. People try to find excuses to why some cocky bastards do well and remain undefeated.

Hopefully this guy will get tested in 07. With all the strange acquisitions Pride has made recently it surprises me that this dude hasn't been picked up yet.
