Cain Velasquez fights Werdum on November 15th

by the time Cain fight on Nov. 15th , He will have been out for over a year ...

If he beats Werdum, after being out for a year,he and the UFC will look to get him a another fight soon, IMO no later than the end of March...

If you look at the rankings, there is not a lot of options, JDS and Bigfoot are out, Cain mauled them twice...

The Only options are

Stipe Miocic
Travis Browne
Josh Barnett
Roy Nelson

and really right now none of them make sense either(Stipe Makes the most sense)

Stipe Miocic is on 3 fight win steak, but really needs 1 more big win, A win over JDS would for sure make him the #1 contender, But I highly doubt The UFC makes that fight, theres to much to risk , with no reward, JDS would be the favorite and IMO would win, that would completely kill Stipe as a contender for at least a year, and it would do nothing for JDS , But The UFC needs to get Stipe a fight around the same time has Cain in either November or December, so if he wins he could then fight Cain in march , IMO they are probably gonna book Stipe in a fight with Rothwell or the winner of Bigfoot/Arlovski

Travis Brown, he was just in a # 1 contender fight and lost, usually he would need to win 2 or 3 more fight to get a title shot, But with the UFC needing a quick turnaround fight for Cain, its possible he could get the title shot if he beats Schab...

Josh Barnett, same as Browne

Roy Nelson , if he beat hunt, he'd be on a 2 fight winning streak, again usually he would need another win or 2, But If Stipe Loses, he could get the title shot if the UFC wants to have have a quick turn around for Cain

All 4 of these fighter would need to fight and win in November or December, for them to get a title shot in March

Now if The UFC decided to not have a quick turn around for Cain, and they want him to fight again in say June or July , then there's not going to be a problem, there will be plenty of time for these guys to fight 2 or 3 times each and one of these guys will separate them selves as the #1 Contender

But If I'm right and they want a quick turnaround, Right now , there really isn't a clear #1 Contender

If the UFC does want Cain to fight in March, who do you think they will chose to fight him??

Yeah the HW Division really lacks top contenders for Cain atm. Bigfoot and JDS would have to be pretty low on the list despite their ranks. They really should try and book JDS against someone other than Stipe or Travis Browne for a while. Providing Cain beats Werdum, I'd go with Cain vs Browne next and give Stipe one more fight and have him in line for next year around this time (July-October).

Really what I think would be in the UFC's best interest would for Werdum to pull off the upset. I don't think it happens but Werdum is more polished now than ever. Who would've thought he'd out strike Travis Browne? And his submission game posses a threat for Cain. Werdum is the best HW submission specialist in the UFC or world for that matter when taking HW MMA.

1st- Cain vs Browne
2nd-Cain vs Miocic
3rd-Cain vs Arlovski (Big if there. He'd have to upset Bigfoot and get another win.)

I had a debate about this subject last week

Reason why jds should not fight stipe

Jds could knock out a contender.

At the moment.
Ufc really doesn't have a clear cut favorite

I would say maybe roll the dice
Have stipe vs Reem. Stipe wins gets title shot.

Or hunt vs Nelson winner.

I am very curious after werdum what will happen
If werdum does win. Cain gets instant rematch no doubt
If it goes to Dec werdum gets a title rematch

If Cain knocks him out cold
Give next shot to stipe
Or sign Fedor For what ever he wants and make that fight happen

UFC has four HW fights booked today. Just 4, not very many considering how many cards they scrounge together.

September
AA vs Bigfoot

November
Cain vs Werdum

December
Nelson vs Hunt
Browne vs Schaub

They need to book some fights.

Right now I would say the winner of Hunt vs Nelson should get the shot, especially if it is Hunt.

Book JDS against Miocic for the real number 1 contender-ship after the next title fight is booked.

Let Mir and Big Nog have their third fight.

Winner of AA vs Bigfoot against Rothewell.

Loser of Cain vs Werdum against Barnett.

Loser of AA vs Bigfoot against Oleinik.

Loser of Hunt vs Nelson against Overeem.

Winner of Browne vs Schaub vs vs Loser of JDS vs Miocic.

Mittrione vs Gonzaga.

Loser of Schaub vs Browne vs Rosholt.

Gat all these fights done before the end of April 2015.

Give it to The Super Samoan!! If he gets past Nelson, this will be a fan favorite! Hunt fans are 'ride or die' till the end of time. This fight regardless of relevance should bring in some serious revenue. Make it a double title fight card and stack it for a holiday weekend or something like that.

I do agree
They signed all these new heavyweight fighters
But yet they are not fighting

Get these guys rolling.

Barnett hasn't fought since last year
Mir hasn't fought since Feb
Jds hasn't fought this year

Jds already fought Cain 3 times
Cain fought big foot twice

Kinda eliminate them

Browne would be good
Reason why I disagreed heavily when werdum vs browne was announced. It eliminate a contender

Same reason why
I don't think gus vs rumble should happen

After Cormier
Gus and rumble

There is a big drop off.

Have rumble vs Bader
Gus vs Evans next year

Go from there.

I do think either gus or rumble needs to be on 182 card
In case Cormier or Jones pulls out.

oh man! completely did not even remember Josh Barnett having his last fight in Dec 2013. Felt so much sooner than that. Why is he on the shelf? Give him Reem so we can get rid of this guy from the UFC. You do make some valid points here, though.

After Nelson proves he is a bigger block head then Hunt. I say give him a shot. In the meantime when in the hell is Santos fighting again is he still hurt I haven't heard anything about him for a long time now.

I say give JDS & Rothwell a shot. Rothwell wins, he argues his shot a the title. JDS wins, it's a tuner and proves he's still relevant. I don't like him fighting Stipe at all because I think Stipe could be the next contender in a year or so, so there's no need to dampen his run, but then the argument could be made if he's not fighting the best, his shot at the title is discredited. Either way, give him Rothwell!

Nobody really deserves one because the UFC has this uncanny method of knocking off their top competitors with tough fights. Roy Nelson will never get a title shot. Mark Hunt should but won't. Nobody wants to see Junior get his face mashed again but we will, and everyone else is just gonna get mauled by Cain. Gonna be a while before the division picks up again.

EDIT: Does anyone have Randy's number?
