At a time when most fighters are trying to cut as much weight as possible to get a size advantage, Rich “Ace” Franklin is swimming against the tide.
The former UFC middleweight champion moves up 20 pounds, to light heavyweight, for Saturday night’s UFC 88 at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta.
And that’s only part of the unique situation. His first opponent is a guy Franklin was instrumental in getting into MMA in the first place, former training partner Matt “The Hammer” Hamill.
