Possible. In a recent interview, Gomi confirmed that he has offers from both UFC an dAffliction and is negotiating with both. Gomi also says his next fight will be in the US and he wants current UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn.

Didn't Gomi already lose to Penn once before?

Anyways, I'm tiring of seeing these Japanese superstars coming over to the UFC after they've suffered bad losses. It just discredits the entire Japanese market by making them look like less than stellar fighters.

Then again, I've never been one to rank Gomi as a top LW. I recognize his skills, but I've never thought he was the best markets outside the UFC had to offer.

If he is looking for challenging fights, the UFC has a vastly deeper LW division that Affliction. Even a co-promotion with Strikeforce would leave few worthy match-ups. Also a bout between Gomi and Nate Diaz could be easily marketed and hyped for an Ultimate Fight Night.

He would be a good asset...he's a Japanese star that will help bridge the gap between the UFC and Japan...which is obviously what they are trying to do...the UFC are slowly and surely conquering the world...hey if it means all the best fighters in one place and the rest trying to be good enough to get there then I'm all for it

Yeah BJ subbed Gomi. I think Gomi is a good fighter but over rated by some. I'm not really sure he could do well in the UFC because most of your higher LWs are top level wrestlers with great cardio that could keep Gomi pressured and on his back most of the fight.

I dont think Gomi would do to well the the UFC's stacked LW Division....He could make for some exciting fights, but i dont think he would ever contend for the title....

i'd say the old gomi would be in the mix for the title.. but gomi nowadays seems to be a shell of his former self..

*not taking anything away from kitaoka, hes an amazing fighter

The old Gomi could finish most lightweights aside from BJ, Kenny, or Sherk. I would still like to see him in the ufc though.

He wont run into as many flying submission specialists in the states as he would japan.

I like Gomi's chances against wrestlers alot better than bjj guys.

Fingers crossed here. I want to see Penn/Gomi II (even though Penn won decisively the first time). I think that a focused and in shape Gomi could hang with the best the UFC has, the question is whether or not he can reach down and find the old school Gomi.

Gomi would be an awesome addition--particularly because he likes to stand and bang. The bad part is--ever since he opened up his school a few years ago, he has ceased to improve as a fighter since he's spending so much time with the young bucks. If he's going to the UFC awesome--I doubt it...but awesome. He'll just really have to focus on pushing himself and finding top notch training partners, instead of the rookies at his gym.
