I don't know how it'd work but something like that could be effervescent.
I wish we had an AIM style chat on the site; can't hold a convo through PM very well and the Japan NYE chat was a blast. Quick enough for actual dialogue, like the Facebook chat.
Any way to make an IM type program where we could add "buddies" and chat whenever they're on or send a message to anyone who's on ? Since I'm not a programmer I'll have to assume it's easy.

For the record, I like everyone who has posted above me.
I am all for camaraderie but this sort of thing tends to exclude members. I'm sure many of you will be on my favorites and I'm sure I will be on a few's favorites - but what about posters like Shawn?
Do we really need to exclude these types of posters more so than they already are?

This is the kind of thing that can be whipped up in an hour or two, I'm sure!
Instead of buddy list, I suppose I should have said contact page or sidebar. I know keeping the forums active is one issue in implementing chat/IM features. I don't think the forums would really be adversely affected though.
However, I would settle for a sidebar you could add friends to. After every event, I check to see how well my friends or co-workers did. Having a section with links to their profiles would be very convenient.

but yeah i too like the idea of a chat system. about a year ago i went back into hardcore poker mode (only lasted a few months this time around). i joined a poker forum and they had a live chat program there where we all could discuss things poker related...i mainly used it for outside advice while playing on pokerstars.
we can have live discussions about upcoming cards or past events (im sure many of us head straight to the PG once a card is over to check our picks), or even just shooting the shit in a much more effective way than PM'ing or posting in threads
