Strikeforce Announces Cancellation of Saturday's Event in Sacramento

Las Vegas, Nevada – STRIKEFORCE® announced this evening that its event planned for Saturday, Sept. 29 at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, Calif. has been cancelled. STRIKEFORCE lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, who was set to defend his title against Pat Healy, sustained an injury in training that forced his withdrawal from the card.
Without the Melendez-Healy title bout, SHOWTIME®, which determines which fights are televised on the premium network, decided that it would not air Saturday’s scheduled event.
“When SHOWTIME informed us that it would not be airing the event, we made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s card in Sacramento,” STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker said. “Without a television partner, we simply could not move forward with this event. We wish Gilbert a speedy recovery and will work diligently and quickly to reschedule the fighters affected by this news on upcoming cards.”
Refunds for tickets purchased are available at point of sale.

I am surprised that Showtime would make the decision to not air the event just because the main fight was cancelled. Maybe Strikeforce should sue them. Personally I wish the UFC would just assimilate Strikeforce already. I understand there are some contractual issues but contracts can be changed, broken and/or thrown out for the right price. As soon as Strikeforce is off of Showtime I am cancelling the Showtime package anyhow as Showtime sucks. They barely ever play any good movies. I was looking forward to some of the fights on this card too. Damn. More BS due to training injuries. It is getting old.

I think Zuffa/SF only renewed with Showtime for a 1 year deal, so maybe could happen sometime soon.

That card was weak on paper so I'm not shocked by showtimes decision with Gil out but that sucks that another group of fighters don't get paid.
With what happened to 151, it opened the floodgates to cancelling events too.

Zuffa makes enough money to pay off Showtime. They can make the money back in the next couple events and Showtime will probably make more with this than actually airing the events. Their promotion of SF is absolute garbage, and MMA is better off without them. Move the female fighters to Invicta FC and the top guys over to the UFC. SF was scheduled to have a grand total of 7 events this year, now 6, after putting on 16 last year including the Challengers Series. Unless fighters are at or near the top of the division, or are able to fight elsewhere, no body is fighting enough to sustain a semi comfortable life being a fulltime fighter.

Strikeforce is going down the shitter as well. Scratched event. Nov event is without a main event.
Ufc can indure it. Strikeforce should just go ahead and merge with the Ufc at this point

Why not let Josh Thomson step in & fight Healy? That would of have been an excellent match & as far as star power... well its just Strikeforce.. we don't expect much.

plus friday night there's Bellator so I was pretty pumped not gonna lie. At least we still have 2 big events.

I would just have showtime for the sole fact of the new season of Californication in jan 2013

I would just have showtime for the sole fact of the new season of Californication in jan 2013
That show got too whiny in the third season, I couldnt finish it. GREAT first 2 seasons though,
