as some of you may remember, i made a topic about a year ago compiling the results from the past 15 UFC events (including finales and fight nights) at the time and breaking them down. well, i got bored again and decided to pick up where i left off, encompassing the past 35 UFC events
including the Fight Nights and TUF Finales. This time around i counted catch weights (which i will clarify below) so i went back and added the Franklin vs Wandy fight to my old data that i skipped last time around. anyway, here are my results:
Now, here are some things i thought i should mention before going into the breakdown:
*There were 2 fights that were not counted because of DQ. One was Riddle vs Soto and the other was Jones vs Hamill
*Kongo's victory over Buentello was via submission due to strikes (HW Sub)
*Krzystof's victory of Bonnar was a TKO via cut (LHW TKO)
*Elkins' victory over Ludwig was TKO injury (WW TKO)
*Stephens victory over Bucholtz was a TKO via cut (LW TKO)
*The Diaz Markham fight was a catch weight that i counted as WW (WW TKO)
*JDS victory over CC was via submission due to strikes (HW Sub)
*Stevenson's victory over Fisher was via submission due to strikes (LW Sub)
*Belcher vs Gouveia was a catch weight that i counted as MW (MW TKO)
*Munoz's victory over Jensen was via submissions due to strikes (MW Sub)
*Griffin vs Franca was a catch weight that i counted as LW (LW TKO)
*Uno vs Camoes was a draw and was not counted
*Lentz vs Tavares was a draw and was not counted
*Vitor vs Franklin was a catch weight that i counted as MW (MW TKO)
*Miller vs Lopez was TKO injury (LW TKO)
*Hazelett vs Daley was a catch weight that i counted as WW (WW TKO)
*Kimbo vs Houston was a catch weight that i counted as LHW (LHW Dec)
*Neer vs Tibau was a catch weight i counted as LW (LW Dec)
*BJ Penn's victory over Diego was via cut (LW TKO)
*Salter's victory over MacDonald was TKO injury (MW TKO)
*Johnson vs Yoshida was a catch weight i counted as WW (WW TKO)
*Lennox's victory over Villefort was TKO via cut (WW TKO)
*Simpson's victory over Herman was TKO injury (MW TKO)
OK, now that the little things are pointed out, let's break it down haha (i rounded to the tenths place, so percents might not add perfectly to 100):Analysis:
-HW...........65.2% (T)KO........15.2% SUB........19.6% Decision
-LHW........42.4% (T)KO........10.2%SUB.........47.5% Decision
-MW..........30.4% (T)KO........30.4% SUB.........39.1% Decision
-WW..........34.4% (T)KO........18.3% SUB........47.3% Decision
-LW...........19.4% (T)KO........32.7% SUB........48.0% Decision
-LWs and WWs are still getting way more fights than the rest of the weight classes, making up 52.3% of the total UFC fights
-LHWs have started to get Decisions like crazy lately, as the percentage went from 33.3% to 47.5% in just about a year.
-LHWs still rarely get subs, and HWs also rarely get subs as 2 of the submissions at HW were via strikes.
-LW and WW fights go to Decision nearly 50 percent of the time.
-The data here supports the claim that smaller fighters have less KOs than larger fighters and vice-versa
-HWs fights have 2:1 odds that there is going to be a KO.
-MWs are shockingly spread out as one would infer. i mean, it is crazy how close the results were to being split exactly evenly between the 3 categories.
if there is anything else you guys would like to add feel free haha
