UFC’s Special Announcement: “Rampage” and Griffin Are “TUF 7? Coaches?

The UFC will make a special announcement at tonight’s “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra” live finale, and the news will likely be that current UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner Forrest Griffin will be rival coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter 7.“

I know everyone is thinking that Forrest isn't qualified enough.

Rampage as a TUF coach? This'll be entertaining. I like Rampage as a fighter but man I'm gonna need to watch TUF with my browser set to UrbanDictionary.com to understand any of his dialogue

Should be a good season though, Rampage seems like the type of guy who would look out for his guys

Ya, I hear ya but really it doesn't matter anymore.

A lot of times I look forward to undercard fights then the actual belt fight. There are so many good fighters now a days that a lot of the fights put together are worth it....

Rampage will smash Forrest, but it will make for good TV.

shiiiit, now that can make for some good tv right there man. I wouldve never thought of rampage for a TUF coach, this is nuts.

i think this is a stunt for ratings, neither of these guys have what it takes to coach.

Rampage is an animal, when he gets in the cage, he does his thing.. but he's the kind of fighter who needs a good coach, needs someone to motivate him. These kinds of fighters are usually the kind of people who lack the ability to teach and motivate others. With that said, I would love to proven wrong because he's a hell of a fighter and probably has some knowledge that he can share.

Forrest on the other hand.. seriously? He's definately one of my favourite fighters because of how far he's gotten on pure work ethic and determination. But with regards to accomplishments and talent.. there are perhaps some better candidates.

Why is the ufc doing this? when you talk about fighters in the ufc with great personalities, rampage and griffin are likely 2 fighters mentioned at the top of that list. These are 2 people that I would tune in to watch on a weekly basis, and theres probably a lot of people out there thinking the same thing. When the ratings suck, what do you do? do shit that will boost the ratings haha. Whether or not these two will end up being great coaches.. all depends on how they step up to the plate.

I personally would've waited until after the 79 card.. and based on how great a fight liddel/silva was, set up liddel/silva2 by having the two of them as coaches

I don't think this nesassarily think this means they have to fight, and I for one hope they don't, I think Rampage is to good for forrest, and I think other people will deserve it more after 79. Also I don't think this would build any hype for a potential fight, there both colorful but theres no antimosity there and if there is it will be forced.

If they are doing what they did with season trying to make a higher watched title fight between the two it's going to be horrible. It will just mean another long wait to see the title fight. At least both of the coaches have awesome personalities and might actually bring some ratings back to the serious. Seriously Serra vs Hughes worst season of the Ultimate Fighter right next to season 4. Jackson for a whole season will make the show.

Entertainment shall ensue. But rampage is gonna kill FG. Too bad.

thats gonna be a tight ass season. i bet as coaches they might need a little help, but they can definitely push their fighters in to being the best they can be. this season is MW right?

you guys may be being hard on forrest as a coach. im not a huge forrest fan but he has a well rounded skill set and an almost unparreled work ethic. if you doubt his jits check out his fight with jeremy horn or some of his earlier fight when bjj was a bigger part of his game. im not saying it is necessarily the best choice but the main point of the show is to make entertaining television and hype a big match not help up and coming fighters regardless of what dana white may say. this will be entertaining, although im not sure where forrest;s win is against rampage. i didnt see his win against shogun either though so who knows...

For coaching duties i agree that this is a pull out all the stops move by the UFC. They are going with there two funniest fighters ever. i have no problem with this.

But Griffin does not deserve a title shot. This is completely stupid. Since he has been in the UFC he has only beat 1 quality opponent. He has 2 losses in his last 5 fights. This is not enough for a title fight. And yes Dana did say that the coaches would be fighting.

are you serious? who is next in line?? forrest deserves this just as much if not more then anyone. jardine has an arguement since he beat him but tough dont get kod by houston!! let me guess they should give it to shogun the guy forrest just beat. and beat him at his own game. he made shogun tap

This is going to be the funnies TUF that's for sure. I really think it will be a very, very good season.

I say Rampage beats Griffin when they fight, pretty badly, yet i hope griffin wins.
