He looked very good for about 2:30 minutes, then all of the sudden got timid, and didn't throw his kicks, or combinations for the rest of the fight. Was he gassed that early? It looked like it to me. I don't know what the UFC plans to do with him, but he seems to more and more of a farce. I don't think he will ever be a title contender with these types of performances. I know he is still young, but in the UFC it seems you have a small window to perform, or your out the door.

He needs releasing in my opinion.

I think he should go to one of the smaller orgs and build up a bit of a win streak and maybe try and develope a gas tank and then Dana can bring him back in 2/3 years when he's matured more as a fighter and is taking this seriously.

he does seem to lose some steam in his fights and im not sure if its because he feels the other guys power or because he gasses quickly. a fight with houston alexander might be the way to go with him, both guys have KO power and its a fight the casual fan would enjoy. hes young and has a lot to learn still, and cane seems for real so this loss doesnt completely wipe him off the map IMO.

Whether he should stay with the UFC or not is something I'm not going to touch on.

The guy needs to reevaluate he game plan. His problem (IMO) is that he wants to stand and trade, rather than work on the ground (confusing for me considering his judo experience).

Now, he seemed to have good experience trading with guys that are typically more ground fighting oriented. eg. Arona, Nakamura, Lil Nog, but when he fights a more technical fighter like Machida, he is out of his element.

I just don't get it, he's in a camp with ton of world class wrestling experience and his game plan is to swing for the fences.

^^^ exactly

It's like the old Liddell beating wrestlers. I never bought his hype and considered he was overrated and got flamed by his fans every time. I'm just happy he lost so everyone can see, especially after calling out Shogun, ha! who do he think he is. He's like Houston Alexander, if doesn't get that 1st rd KO, he going to lose.

IMO, if the UFC doesn't release him they should put him against Vera in a "loser goes home" match.

It boggles my mind that a 24 year old with that much athletic ability has no gas tank. If he could keep up that pace for three round I have no idea who could with stand it.

Too much muscle mass. Like Rogan said, those muscles need to be fed (oxygen), and at the pace he is going, is not surprising he runs out of gas as quick as he does.

I agree though, Soko + Cardio = scary, i think he could beat alott of the top guys.

It boggles my mind that a guy who burst onto the scene with first round KO's over Arona and Lil Nog has stooped to such a level

It's Team Quest IMO. He needs a different place to train in where guys are going to push him through 3 rounds of technical sparring. Soko could go so far with a great muay thai standup teacher like Delagrotte IMO. I really feel like his potential is limitless. He needs to learn to know when to flip that explosion switch. He needs to set up his power shots better and he needs to take away people's confidence by clinching with them and putting them on the ground then standing it back up. His head movement is good on the feet and his explosiveness is unreal.

If you got put in against a guy who could take away your confidence on the feet with early power shots (even if they're blocked the power will still put people in check) and then he takes away your confidence on the ground by putting you there and backing right out it could spell disaster for a lot of people. That's the gameplan he needs to use IMO

give him the same treatment as vera. both guys have a boat loads of talent but they are either raw in soko's case or lost their way in vera's case. i think with a little fine tuning both guys could be up in the top 10, but right now they need to start from the bottom and work their way back up. but too valuable to be flat out released.

Only reason I didn't mention Jackson's camp is because we've already got enough top 205'ers working out there. We don't need another guy who won't fight his teammate in that camp.

Delagrotte is a better standup coach who knows how to see weaknesses almost as good as Jackson anyway.

Hell he could keep in the team quest family and go down to uncle randy's to learn strategy too...

He is only 24 and has lots of growth to make as a fighter I'm just not sure team quest is the best place to train if your an up and commer any more

Yeah I just realized that AFTER my post. That and cutting weight always seems like the first answer to a problem.

I think Team Quest is the best place to be if you're a brawler type greco wrestler (Chael Sonnen) but not if you're an explosive judoka. I mean the clinch work will only get better working against greco guys there, but to me he's not able to see the full fruits of his labors that he would somewhere else. So, I agree.. but I don't think he should be surrounded by wrestlers and traditional boxing style coaches. I think he would be best served by learning from a MT expert

what a shame of a fight that was but cane looked really really tough
it might be real deal

soko might get the cut on his high salary but who knows one more fight and he is done

he might fight vera now in loser leaves town match

i honestly felt the same way. Him and Vera both have tons of skill and talent for their age. They just need to be in another camp and focus on training aspects.

I still think he could do well to loose some weight, just not drop to MW. He doesnt need so much muscle mass so if he cuts a little bit out he wont gas as quick.
