Holy balls, I forgot about this thread and most of all how douchey the first few replies were to it..
I guess I am kind of strange:
If I buy it in a bottle/can, I almost always refer to it as a pop.
If I buy it from a fountain, I call it a soda. I think it is because I grew up near a drug store that had an old fashioned soda fountain and so anything I get from a "fountain" machine is a soda.
I've also been known to speak like a 5 year old and call it a soda-pop. Because I am just that hardcore.

I say soda, pop is just an onomatopoeia. I have yet to run into someone in Ohio who calls it soda though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the term pop is still prevalent in the midwestern states.
