July's UFC 149 event has a fairly significant change: Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1 MMA, 1-0 SF) has replaced injured Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) and now meets Thiago Alves (19-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC).

Officials from the UFC's Brazilian office today announced the change.

UFC 149 takes place July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo headlines in a five-round title fight with challenger Erik Koch.

UFC 149's main card, including Bahadurzada vs. Alves, airs on pay-per-view. FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims.

The nature of Akiyama's injury wasn't disclosed.

My thoughts exactly!!!!

Calling this a slug fest is an understatement.

This is 100 times better than the Akiyama match up.

War Siyar!

Should be really interesting...I like the matchup--I mean at least Yoshihiro isn't being served up as fodder for the moment.

Siyar has some big holes in his ground game though, so I wouldn't be shocked if this one goes to the ground early.

Hopefully Akiyama will get a mid level fighter at ww now! Che Mills would be a sweet fight.

I picked against Siyar when I know I shouldn't have and I am thinking Alves wins the striking war. But I wouldn't be surprised if Siyar went in with a wrestling mind set and tried to beat Thiago that way. Not saying he will and that he would be successful if he did.

But back to my main point I am gonna have to pick Siyar after I picked against him last time.

Siyar is one of my favorites. Love this fight. The universe just helped Joe Silva do his job something fierce.

Alves isnt to happy I imagine. Much tougher fight but he should still come out on top. I would much rather have seen Kampmann in this position instead of Alves

I think Alves is going to get funked up. I say Siyar wins.

Why Kampmann? The way I see it he should be fighting at the top of the division. Siyar has a lot of hype coming in off his KO of Paulo Thiago, but is largely unknown, the guy only has 20 seconds of octagon time under his belt.

I am a big Alves fan and while this fight should provide a bigger challenge, it is also a more dangerous fight. Akiyama would have been exciting, but he isn't a dangerous striker and I could see Alves really putting on a beautiful Muay Thai clinic in that fight. He'll have to be more conservative against Siyar. I still think Alves can get it done.

like i told my camp, i straight cashd in on Siyar..and i think he'll beat Alves..Siyar trains with GG for yrs..Alves has always been one of my favorite muay thai artist..but Siyar got retard strenght (no pun intened)..this will either be FotN or a early stoppage, both in favor for Siyar..

love this fucken match up ! fan of both guys, see how siyar goes against a top muay thai guy in alves. Don't think alves will get cut if he loses but if that does happen it probably will be the lowest he has been in his ufc career....besides the time he had that brain surgery.

Great new match up and Sexyama may be better matched in the future

Disagree with those saying Sexyama was the easier matchup for Alves.

Siyar has massive holes in his game, which Thiago will exploit.
