Sean Sherk will keep his title after all. According to Steve Sievert of Brawl Sports, the UFC has confirmed that Sherk will remain their lightweight champion.
UFC president Dana White has gone back and forth on whether he would strip Sherk of his title were he to lose his appeal to the NSAC. First, White told Yahoo!Sports' Kevin Iole that Sherk would keep the title regardless of the outcome of his appeal, then a few days later, White backpedelled on those comments stating during a conference call that Sherk would probably be stripped of his title if he were to lose his appeal.

Not in my opinion a very good move, will send the wrong type of message for sure.

this is bs, and how does this effect the penn/stevenson fight? is it just a #1 contenders match now?

and wont sherk be able to fight in january? i seriously doubt the winner of penn/stevenson would be able to fight again by january.

and didnt penn say he wouldnt fight sherk if he lost the appeal or something along those lines?

this sucks

Not happy with this decision, I'm interested to see if Sherk can continue training the way he does with out the help. I see BJ subbing him from the bottom if they fight.

so much for setting examples at EVERY level.

christ.....i'm actually kind of suprised by it.
so if you have a belt, you can get away with it now?

BS
(just like everyone else said)

that makes me mad......i hope the winner of penn/stevenson mops the floor with him.

who else would? are they going to give sherk a come back fight to see if hes any good with out juice? i doubt it, the interim winner should fight the prior champ in his next fight

great idea.. the prior champ eh? would that be pulver?

I dont trust this source.. theres no way that the ufc can let sherk keep his title after a positive test and a failed appeal. I can understand that dana white, like myself can think that it was an issue of contaminated supplements or some other forgivable mistake on sherks part.. but to let him straight up keep the belt is dumb.

The reason why I dont think this is true is because they could strip him of the title, and give him no1 contendership instead. This way they're upholding the rules and regulations, but in reality, nothing has changed. Sherks next fight will be against penn or stevenson, just as if they let him keep the title.

If this source is correct, the message that the ufc is sending out is that we'll make exceptions if we think the guy is innocent, the actual rules only apply to suspensions, not to titles. I really dont think the ufc is dumb enough to do this.

If the Penn/Stevenson match turns into a #1 contender fight and Penn wins, what happens? Correct me if I'm wrong but Penn said he wouldn't fight Sherk due to the whole steriod issue. Anyways, I got my money on Stevenson.

Absolute BS. I hope BJ wins and refuses to fight him now, I never woulda wished that as I can't wait to see BJ tap him, but this is ridiculous. Tho exactly what I expected.

Apparently this news item is BS. Just found this on MMANews saying Sherk WAS stripped of the title.

The following is a MMA.tv message from Cindy Ortiz, a friend of UFC president Dana White.

"I just asked DW. He said the UFC did strip Sean of the title. He didn't feel the need to make an announcement about it.

The source of the "news" that he wasn't stripped is B.S.

Cindy"

Well still nothing official from the UFC, I wonder if they leaked this to gauge the reaction from the fans. If so and this fourm is any indication they may want to reconsider, who knows maybe we will learn more tonight.

WTH? Didn't feel the need to make an announcement

If true, just wow.... Strip one of your champions of their belt, but its not important, why tell anyone.

if he doesnt get stripped, its a joke. Just becouse dana likes/beleives him doesnt mean he should beable to get away with it.

Sherk has been stripped, TITLE VACANT. Confirmed by UFC officials, just made new thread with source.

Amen. Now the obvious question: Is Penn-Stevenson now for the real title?

It was always for the "real" title, imo, SS has no claim to that belt as of now.
