Royce Gracie Asking for Rematch with Matt Hughest at UFC 134 in Brazil

Royce Gracie is trying to get one more fight in the UFC in his home country of Brazil, and he’s asking for a rematch with Matt Hughes.

I agree. That last loss was very controversial. Someone cheated Royce somehow in some way. He just hasn't told us how yet. But if a Gracie loses there's always some really good excuse. Because they are super human warriors. No one could beat them unless there was some kind of fix.













PS. I'm only half joking. I for one am a fan of the Gracie's and I'd like to see Royce get one more shot, especially in Brazil.

It's ambitious that he wants Hughes and shows he doesn't want to fight just to fight. It means something to him and he's trying to prove something.

But if he wants to pitch the fight to Dana he's going to have to focus on how hard he's been working and not fall back on the old Gracie excuses.

Im all for it as long as it's an unaired prelim.

I say put a 3 fight preliminary card on Spike together, and have this match as the main event of that card. I really don't see it going much different than their first fight though. Granted, Hughes isn't the dominant force he was when he fought Royce in '06, but look at his performances against Renzo and Almeida.

This is a pointless match, beyond Royce trying to avenge his and the extended Gracie clan's losses to Hughes. But for some reason I am interested.

i think the ufc should put an end to gracies ambitions of fighting again. royce has no place in the ufc of today. as a serious MMA fan, i have zero interest of seeing gracie fight hughes again. hughes will no doubt dominate him again. get over it royce, your ufc days are over.

I admire Royce for wanting to fight Hughes again,especially in Brazil but to me if he fights,it has to be another legend from his era.

I like the fight but at this point in time I doubt hughes takes it
Hughes only has one or two more fights left in him.

no! just no! I dont want to see it! It would be no different from the the first fight.
Royce is really starting to piss me off, just accept that there are other Brazilians that arnt named Gracie who we would rather see fight these days!

Hughes isn't as dominant as when they fought before at ufc 60 but then again royce couldn't have gotten much better either. The fight doesn't really make sense but who cares it's Royce freaking Gracie the pioneer why not do this fight i'm sure Hughes wouldn't mind getting it on with Royce again. Hope Royce get's some kind of fight.

Well as you can tell from my handle I may be bias. Hughes is certainly not what he once was but what possibility is there of Gracie beating him? I honestly think it's impossible. Hughes would either control him on the ground and pound him out like before or use his improved striking and beat the hell out of him on the feet...see Renzo fight. I just think it's a little bit pointless for both guys at this point. Neither has anything to prove. I think Royce should let his legacy live and tell his story and I think if Hughes takes another fight he should go out in a bigger fight, win or lose.

One thing that has not been brought up which i'm thinking is a huge factor in this whole thing is money.
We all know that within reason the UFC will put on any fight that's going to be profitable for them. A rematch between Hughes and Gracie,no matter what are feelings subjectivly are towards this fight makes a fair amount of sense. Even more so considering it would take place in Brazil.
I'm guessing Royce's number is far larger than Zuffa's and they probably don't see the amount they would be putting into it would be profitable enough in returns.

Does anyone have a figure for how much Royce made for their first fight?
I'm guessing he's probably wanting around double that since the fight would be in Brazil and Dana can't justify this because of his poor performance in their first fight.

the UFC should bring in Newton or Saku for a 1 fight contract with Royce. i know its wishful thinking but i would like to see them fight each other with respect to where they are in their careers
