A heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson (16-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and the returning Fabricio Werdum (14-5-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has been slotted for February's UFC 143 event.

Werdum will jump from Strikeforce to the UFC, where he fought from 2007 to 2008, as part of the long-rumored move.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the bout with event sources. MMAWeekly.com first reported it.

UFC 143 takes place on the eve of the NFL's Super Bowl, Feb. 4, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The night's main card airs on pay-per-view, and Nelson vs. Werdum is expected to be part of the broadcast.

I think Nelson gives Werdum all he can take. SD are sort of rare in the HW division but I smell one here for Werdum.

Hope Nelson tests his chin real good.

I think Werdum might have the better striking.

So much for Strikeforce's fighters staying in Strikeforce, huh Mr. White?

Even though Werdum is better than El'Roy on the ground, I don't see Werdum wanting to go there like he did in the Overeem fight.

when my friend asked Werdum in NOLA if he was coming back to the UFC, he said "I have good news for you, in December. That's all I can say".

it's nice to see him back in the UFC.

Roy can and should win this one standing. I like this fight for both guys.

ahh mann it always sucks having to pick between two heavyweight favorites but iam gonna have to give it to Big Country. He has a solid advantage on the feet & hes underrated on the ground

I am pretty sure now. That travis browne will face schaub or meathead next now.

I really thought werdum vs schaub would happen

Yeah, that makes a little more sense.

So SF is being renewed, yet all the fighters are leaving

good matchup, i wanna see how werdum counteracts nelsons size to speed ratio, but im assuming it will be a simalar fight to when nelson fought mir

Yea Nelson all day, he deffs has better striking and KO power than Werdum, dudes underrated on the ground although I would give the advantage to Werdum in BJJ, Nelson R2 KO

I think I am one of the few who thinks Nelson is better than Werdum on the ground.

I just hope Werdum doesn't just flop to his back the whole fight.

Werdum is without a doubt techincally better on the feet and on the ground by roy has that wrestling and one punch to put werdum to sleep. Very good fight imo id probably pick roy for his one punch and that wrestling. Werdum wont tap him.

I think a big part of Nelsons ground game is his physique and he nullifies what everybody else brings to the table I think he makes Werdum fight his game and it should be a good fight but I think Werdum takes a close decision if Country doesn't land that overhand.

As a Werdum fan it is great to see him back in the UFC...to be honest he shouldn't have ever been let go in the first place.

I'd say if they're announcing the fight now, this was probably a done deal before the Showtime contract was signed. I'm fairly certain Showtime would be none too happy otherwise.

depends on how werdum tries to fight nelson. i assume this fight turns out a lot like the arlovski vs werdum fight with werdum losing on the feet the entire time and not doing anything to get the fight to the ground

I hope it makes it to the ground, i wanna see if Werdum or Roy can use bjj to win

This fight just does nothing for me really I dont know why and I like Nelson...I swear I see Werdum sliding around on his arse....

IMO This is Roy's fight to lose. He should be able to dictate where the fight takes place. Werdum has an amazing guard but Roy has great ground & pound. Werdum might be more technical (i'm really not sure) on the feet but I think Roy has the advantage on the feet still. I wish Werdum could fight someone else for his first fight...he has more to lose in this fight. It'd be a great win for Roy and I don't think it would mean a lot for Werdum if he wins other than it'd be good to get a win on his first fight back in the UFC.

Must be.

I'm really surprised at all the people picking Nelson. He's clearly disadvantaged on the ground. Standing this fight is close. And I think Werdum has better conditioning and physical advantages.

I'll take the odds tho. Keep picking Big Country guys!!

I think Werdum is going to wear him out in the clinch.
