Rory MacDonald is usually the quiet type, but with the UFC welterweight division currently a jumbled mess with little clarity, the rising prospect isn't waiting around to see what might be next for him. Instead, when it comes to his next opponent, he has a request, and a very specific one.

"Right now I feel there’s a guy that I want to fight before he leaves the sport and that’s B.J. Penn," he said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "That’s a guy I really want to fight. I respect him a lot. He’s a legend and I think it’d be a really good matchup for me to have that fight in Toronto."

MacDonald made sure to note this was a respectful request and not a "call out" of a future Hall of Famer.

Penn has been on the shelf since losing to Nick Diaz last October at UFC 137. Afterward, he said he would retire rather than fight again, but in recent weeks, he's backtracked on that, most recently saying on a May 29 episode of UFC Tonight that he was "warming up to the idea" of a comeback.

I'd like to see it. A big name like Penn on his record would be the feather in his cap for his young career.

He can call out whoever he wants, I hope Joe gives him a real test. Let's see how he does against someone with strong wrestling and powerful hands. Josh Koscheck?

How about Ellenberger? Both did well against Condit, but came up short. I think this fight would be awesome

I want to play 1 on 1 with Larry Byrd.

whats the point of calling out a retired guy?

Seriously I think the UFC told him to say that.

Dana is slowly reeling BJ in

has he made an official statement or had a press conference where he formally said he retired? No he didn't therefore he isn't retired.

I'd rather see him fight a Hathaway or Sanchez to test himself against a strong, but not elite, wrestler.

C'mon Rory, why call out an irrelevant "fighter"

If anything, call out the guy you were whooping for 3 rounds and lost a bs call by the ref.

This would be like GSP vs Penn 2, only with Rory instead of GSP.

No interest in seeing it or why that match up would happen or Penn even taking that fight.

If BJ does come back, I really only want to see him at 155, where he seems to train better.

Honestly, I would most like to see Rory VS Condit II

I like both fighters, but I think Rory has surpassed Condit since they last fought. Even though they have both advanced in leaps and bounds, Rory is the next champ, I hope he has the stones to dethrone GSP.

I really believe theres only one dude @ WW that Rory wont smash, and in 2 years my guess is Rorys the WW champ, GSP's the MW champ and Andersons retired. But ya, no need for Rory to fight Penn. Rory vs Hendricks, Koscheck, Condit, Diaz, Fitch, Shields, Kampmann.... Line em up. If Penn comes back he's nuts if its not at 55.

That's your best avi yet IMO. It doesn't look like a shop at all.

And another easy win for me...

I think Hendrix and Kampman are the only fighters (outside of the co-champs) that have strung together more then 2 wins that will advance his position for a title shot. Even though he seems apprehensive about a title shot with his teammate/friend. He is a very young fighter, so taken a fight with some of the other top guys that are coming off a loss wouldn't be a terrible idea, such as Ellenberger, Sanchez or Kos especially if he wants on that Toronto card.

he's been offered fights and said he's enjoying retirement for now, thats enough, why spend your own money putting on a press conference to do so? He tweets all the time he's enjoying retirement.

I can't see GSP ever holding the MW belt personally.
