Rory MacDonald out of Fight w/BJ Penn

LOS ANGELES – A major cut suffered in training that required several stitches will keep Rory MacDonald from a highly anticipated welterweight fight against B.J. Penn at UFC 152 next month.
UFC President Dana White on Saturday told MMAjunkie.com of the injury following Saturday's post-event news conference for UFC on FOX 4, which took place at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
MacDonald (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Penn (16-8-2 MMA, 12-7-2 UFC) had been booked for the main card of UFC 152, which is set for Sept. 22 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

I didn't think this fight was actually going to happen when these two first start getting into it and now it's really not.

Shitty deal, I was gonna attend this event, but will pass with this latest development ....... are they gonna scrap this one or find a late replacement? This one will likely be rescheduled.

Yeah, it was a damn vicious elbow to cut like that. :(
I know BJ is pushing to have the fight happen in Rio but I like the idea of 154 in Montreal better, especially as a co-main to GSP v Condit. With the rivalry between all four of them - Rory & Condit and BJ & GSP - I think it would be an exciting card with strong PPV potential.
Toronto cards seem cursed, as usual.

I would have thought the show could still go on since the bout isn't for like a month and a half...a cut like that would probably heal in a couple weeks. Obviously not the ideal situation, not getting full contact training for a couple weeks--I'm surprised it required so many stitches, must be really deep...guess maybe you can't really guage it to well with just a picture.
