I'm a huge "Ruthless" fan, and one of things I see pretty often when non-fans talk about him is his fight with Melvin Manhoef, where Manhoef was pretty much picking apart Lawler with leg kicks until Lawler landed a nasty over hand straight to Manhoef's chin. Well, I was reading an article on BloodyElbow about Lawler earlier where they went through his history with all the major orginizations, and when they arrived at his fight with Manhoef they acted as if they thought the fight was negative in Lawler's history even though he managed to catch a highlight reel knockout. " Picked apart by Melvin Manhoef before landing a hail mary punch" is what they said, and some of the readers in the comments mentioned they thought it was a "lucky punch" and they would've liked to see Lawler lose because most of Lawler's wins were lucky punches on better fighters. I'm wondering what some of you guys think about Robbie Lawler and his fight with Manhoef in specific.

The way I see it, there is no such thing as a "lucky punch" in MMA. If a punch lands on the chin, then that means the guy who was knocked out left his guard open long enough for his opponent to strike, and that's what Lawler did to Manhoef. Lawler's power isn't something to sleep on, and it seemed as though Manhoef was too comfortable after landing so many leg kicks and he fell asleep on Lawler while looking for his own knockout. One of Lawler's two main weaknesses has always been the inability to check leg kicks, and Manhoef used that to his advantage to throw Lawler off and keep him off offense. I don't think it's right to take away from Lawler's win just because he was losing up to that point.
