A rematch between rivals Nick Diaz and Joe Riggs is set for the main card of Strikeforce "Carano vs. Cyborg" on Aug. 15. The bout will be for the newly created welterweight title.

Sources close to both fighters confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com on Monday. An announcement from the promotion is expected shortly.

It is the fourth title fight confirmed for the late summer card. Gina Carano faces Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos for the women's 145-pound belt, Josh Thomson defends his lightweight strap against Gilbert Melendez, and heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem defends against Fabricio Werdum.

Go Joe! Please put an end to the Nick Diaz hype train, although in saying that I do admit he's looked pretty damn good lately.

Does anyone no what this will mean for Jake Shields? Is he moving to MW...I know him and Nick are friends and Nick doesn't fight his friends...

I didnt realize these two had fought before.

I really think that this is a huge mismatch at this point in these two fighters careers. Nicks not unbeatable by any means but Joe is taler made for him to beat IMO.

They fought in the octagon, then they fought in the hospital afterwards.

MMA weekly interviewed them both on the hospital altercation, it's a pretty funny read if you've never read it.

There's no point in Strikeforce having this title. The only concievable reason is that Strikeforce wants Riggs vs. Diaz to last more than three rounds (which it probably will not), but Diaz having to defend at 170 will probably be worse than should he stay at a ~180 catchweight or middleweight and fight Robbie Lawler and/or Cung Le. Who else does Strikeforce have at 170? Dennis Hallman? Jake Shields, should Riggs win? Nick Thompson? I'm just against the creation of a title for a division that has very little to offer right now.

I'll pull for Riggs but pick Diaz.

Riggs has shown hes pretty vulnerable to the big shot which i think nick diaz lacks, i think this is riggs' fight to win if he trains, i dont know if diaz is going to submit him he might but i really dont see him knocking him out. its a good bout everyone wants to see these 2 go at it again

Diaz wins this one easily, useless for a WW belt in Strikeforce right now, but whatever.

I agree with you..their 170 division is incredibly weak....however maybe their idea of crowning a champ will be to draw fighters into the promotion...up to this point there haven't been any reason for fighters to come...Nick has looked really good in his last few fights and with a win will be the spearhead for the division...being as he is such a outspoken individual he could actually attract fighters that want to come and knock him out and take his new shiny belt...I think they(STrikeforce) are trying to establish themselves and increase their stable fighters/divisions...and for TV audiences the best way to do that is start crowning champs...and then creating challengers. I'm glad Overeem is finally defending his belt and against a fairly worthy adversary at that. And with Rogers in the wings...(really a shame about Lavar Johnson, hope for his speedy recovery)...the introduction of Roger Gracie...they do seem to be putting for an effort and I hope it continues...they have to take their time so that they dont go down the way of the many before them.

how dare you take big nogs mantra and use it to describe diaz????

What it looks like to me is they are attempting to work from the top down, getting title holders in place so they can attract fighters in each division. I think its a good move because at least you can say "we have a structure and a belt for your weight class".

I think they are in a prime position to steal some fighters from lesser known promotions and maybe even a few more from the UFC.
