Want a free MMA Playground t-shirt? Be the first to answer to following question and it's yours:

Who was the first BJJ BB to be submitted in MMA?

HINT: It was in a proper MMA match, no Kimura/Helio answers please. Also, it was a tapout, no technical submissions, strikes, exhaustion, etc...

(Only 3 guesses per person)

Masakatsu Funaki?

Marcus "Conan" Silveira?

and Rickson Gracie...my three guesses

Rickson has never been submitted (on record anyways)... I'm not even sure if Silveira is a BB... and Funaki, well I don't know if he even has a belt at all...

Regardless, you're incorrect. Sorry.

Renzo Gracie
Pele
John Dixon

I have no clue....

Well John Dixon was subbed before the person I'm thinking of, but I don't know if he was a BB at the time.

PS. I'm looking for a loss from a submission lock, not stikes or exhaustion...

You get another free guess, and if you can prove he was a BB when he got armbarred you win...

having troubles finding out when he got his black belt.

but I found that he was inducted into the Universal MArtial Arts Hall Of Fame in 2001 less then 4 years after that loss.... so I would think he'd had to of been a black belt in late 97 if he was inducted in early 01...

it doesnt even say on his homepage.

Sorry, just take another free guess then. Again though, if you DO find proof that he was a BB when he got armbarrd at PRIDE 1 then you win.

I know Wikipedia can be wrong, but it has Silveira listed as a BB for Ultimate Japan (12-21-97).

Reporting himself as 203 pounds in order to gain entry, Sakuraba was paired off against the 243 pound Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelt and former Extreme Fighting champion, Marcus Silveira.

Nice find, although he was submitted about a month too late...

Apperantly he gave his brother a BB in '91, so he must have had one for a while... This makes me love Saku even more!!!
