No more religious or political threads in the forums.

I'm not posting this to be starting a war but I want a response. Whoever the decision making moderators are, please one of you respond. I PMed one of the mods and they wouldn't give the info.

It's a big deal banning entire subjects from the forums and I would like to at least know the purpose. I haven't seen any pissed threads, likely because they were deleted, but if you are going to make such a move at least give us an explanation.

We deserve that much. Please, I encourage you to lock this post, but at least either post a reason or PM me personally. Like I said, I'm not trying to start shit, and I know the playground is getting bigger, but it's not a whole lot to ask for a reason.

Oh yeah, and don't ban me please. That would suck.

I don't see how an "Open" Forum can ban entire subjects for discussion Isn't that the point of a forum to begin with..For people to debate such subjects and matters.I understand wanting to keep to the site clean and unlike sherdog but lately its likeI have to re-read my post several times before clicking post because of the sensitive nature of some people.I think people are taking things too serious.Its a ******* message board for gods sake.

Not a big fan of the move. Politics and religion are huge subjects tha generate a lot of interesting conversation. I understand religion being banned as I could see some threads going downhill fast and some hurt feelings in the aftermath.

As far as politics though, not being able to discuss your president on a message board seems like restrictive overkill. Not going to rant on it too much as I love this site and I'll get over it.

The matter has been discussed between the mods and admins. It's not so much the threads themselves are the problem, it's that some people just have to go and derail the main topics and it spirals completely out of control. It's not everyone as I know some people are trying to have rather intellectual discussions, but other people have to be childish, insulting, whatever, go and break the rules, and make it more trouble than it's worth.

My suggestion if you really want to talk about it: Get your own blog/forum/website. That's what I did. This is a privately owned website, the admins & site owners are free to make whatever rules they see fit.

i urge the mods/admins to reconsider. i have had a lot of good discussions with people in a calm, cool and collected manner where the threads stayed on topic. i say just warn the posters who cant follow the rules in stead of making the rest of us who follow the rules suffer.

Rest assured that we are at each other's throats about this.

I agree, there are ways around the absolute banning of a subject. The mods can take a firmer stance and give a 1 warning then you're banned for good stance. Noone is going to **** up with that in place. At least anyone who wants to post.

I guess I see the Playground as a nightclub. Everyone is here having a good time. If someone causes a disturbance, they will be kicked out, and everyone else continues to enjoy themselves.

But it seems to be more like a prison yard. Everybody is enjoying themselves outside of their cells. One person causes a problem, and instead of just punishing that one person, everybody is sent back to their cells and play time is over.

But that seems to be how most things are run these days.

I'm 100% for political discussions and have even started a few in the past. I wish we could keep them on the playground. I wish we could hash out all arguments between members and come to a resolution without banning and warning people. Unfortunately it's not my website and in a lot of cases I completely agree with the ending of certain threads because people are getting stupid and dragging others into their drama.

As I mentioned in the mod discussion we had on this topic- The problem isn't politics, it's people spinning their side of politics and refusing to budge or have an open mind, then turning it eventually into a big fight. People hold grudges on this site and have rallied up their entire camp behind them to crap on people's posts and start shit on the forums. It's childish as all hell, but I swear to God it's happening and has been for a while now. You just have to know the players. Once you do it is completely obvious. It's crap. I hate it.

So in the end-

I'm 100% for political threads and anything else. Hell, I even enjoy porn

However- it's not my website and I respect those who run it. I just try to step on as little an amount of people's dicks as I can while being a mod. Half the time I feel like a worthless mod because I rarely hand out bans or warnings. I usually just delete the post or edit it to keep the peace. Then, I'll send a PM to the person and try to calmly explain why I had to do what I had to do. I never do shit because it makes me feel good. In all honesty I feel like crap for warning guys I don't even like 99.9% of the time.

Kind of shitty to be stuck between a rock and a hard place being a moderator and having to enforce these rules. Truth be told it has made me question my decision to become a mod a number of times, but I love this site and the MMA knowledge that spreads around it. Certain people trusted me to moderate, and because of my respect for them and this website I'm willing to play ball. You can lose respect for me after reading that, but at least I'm being honest. I might even get my ass chewed or lose my power as a mod for this post.

hey man, we are all grateful you are a mod. people go about enforcing the rules differenly, and so far it has been effective. i also see the teen drama BS b/w certain members, but it doesn't have to ruin it for everyone. it's called the locker room and padded room for a reason. idk, this whole thing rubs me the wrong way.

Unfortunately they catch all the hell, but you have to share the blame with the people that have said ridiculous things and started flame wars and retarded insults between each other. Sometimes threads have gotten so nasty that there is little or no choice but to delete the entire thing.

So, while I like the fact that we're having an open discussion about free speech and such - let's also realize that certain douches have forced the hand of the "powers that be" at times. We shouldn't ruin the opportunity to discuss that this thread has provided by turning it into a "shit on the mods" party. Focus on the issue at hand, and release the grudge. Let's all discuss this in an adult manner.

And I also appreciate your willing to discuss the matter with me in private, which generally is how I prefer it be done. If someone has a question or problem with something I say and they PM me about it, I might say something at first I'll regret later in the heat of the moment but when it's all said and done it'll turn out better and I will be more respectful. We're not perfect as much as we want to be, it's a flaw of being human...yeah, I don't like it either, haha. Keep that in mind, folks-my door is almost always open. And if I can't help you out I'll try and direct you to someone who can. Just don't bother me when I'm sleeping or eating.

I am not trying to "dump on the mods" at all and I probably know as well as most about some of the problem people that hang around. There is some crappy stuff that people have been doing to each other, and it should stop. I report stuff when I see it on the forums, and anything else I can do to help you guys let me know.

With that said, those people are not the ones who make decisions on the site. Banning legitimate topics of discussion is not a good move in any situation, ever, if you want to stimulate good conversation on any topic. Each topic has a place in one of the forums.

Instead of getting rid of the topics... get rid of the idiots. If people get out of line... punish them. Don't punish people who come into a discussion with a good heart and good intentions.

In the end there is someone making the choices, and the choices they make affect the community. I honestly believe that this is the best mma forum on the internet. Good choices (of which there have been so many) will make this site great. Bad choices will make people not feel the need to come here anymore.

That's the exact thing I think people want to see. My suggestion shouldn't be thrown out, 1 warning on the politics/religion posts, then you're banned from the forum. Please at least consider it or an alternative.

I don't understand the purpose of this site. I was under the impression it was for people who like MMA to discuss MMA and other things. You know a place to go where you will find like minded people and then discuss things they like and don't like. I would be really mad if I had paid money for this site.
I like it here and I find the conversations to be stimulating. I just dont understand the level of oppression. It seems counterproductive. I thought websites existed to generate hits and serve the public. Not this one. I have never had to even think about posting on any other message board. I mean if you don't want to read something offensive don't read. It's a very simple concept.

But don't you see how this particular post is so much different than some of the other posts? You're coming out swinging for the fences insulting me and the other mods. I don't think I've ever done anything to slight you, so why would I deserve that? This is the kind of "dumping on the mods" that is just ridiculous. It's beyond fair to say that things have been awfully strict and maybe it should be toned down, but to INSULT is just plain ridiculous.

Explain exactly how any of the mods have abused their powers? To my knowledge none has ever abused their powers. Some may have been more strict than others, but I've never seen an outright abuse. I would likely be the first person to call it out if I did see an outright abuse.

Also- For the record I have never once handed out a warning or a ban for someone bashing the mods.

I personally like getting the views of ppl who have things in common with me such as MMA. Now I also know of a few hunters on this site who of course enjoy MMA also even more like myself. Now I could go to a political forum and interact with some ppl who enjoy the same things I do but the chances of finding them are going to be much harder. There needs to be a warning that if you enter the Padded room it is unfiltered but all rules still apply. Simply ban members who get out of hand.

Maybe you could make the Padded room only open to premium members and only there can those topics are allowed. You then know the members involved are not trolls and you also would up membership.

Just my thoughts I try to follow the rules the best I can. So until the ban is lifted I will not discuss the changing times our government (United States) is going through
