Out of rehab, Paulo Filho could return this year

World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight champion Paulo Filho (16-0) has completed his substance-abuse recovery program, and the WEC is hoping the Brazilian will return to action later this year, according to WEC vice president Peter Dropick.

Dropick shared the developments during Wednesday's media conference call to promote Sunday night's "WEC 34: Faber vs. Pulver" event.

"Last I heard out of Brazil is that Paulo is out of rehab, and he's doing well, and he's just getting back in shape to fight," Dropick said.

i think it needs to happen who cares if there firends did you become a fighter to make frineds or to find out whos the best but whatever....

I think anderson would just beatdown filho, because filho was getting beat down by Chael. Well you guys in WW division that wont fight each other, kos, fitch and swick.

So im guessing Chael and Filho are going at it again.

I think that he needs to fight Chael and fast. Chael almost beat him last time and based on his performance in his last fight hasn't lost anything.

If Filho gets a lucky submission again I am going to be mad... it's time he gets a loss and is stopped being compared to UFC fighters. If he was good enough to hang in the UFC don't you think that's where he'd be. He'd end up as a contender at best who never wins the belt.

A rematch with Sonnen is a must in my opinion. He was losing the fight up until the submission, and Sonnen said he didn't tap and didn't want the fight to stop. I think if they didn't stop though he would have broke his arm. Filho had a lot of baggage with him going into that fight. I don't know if that had anything to do with his performance, but it would be nice to see him with out any distractions. Didn't Filho say he wanted to move up a weight class a while back?

IMHO (and I will be bashed for this) I think Filho should be stripped. I'm sorry, but pulling out of a title fight for rehab should be cause for a title striping...especially when the guy your going against has your number...

I don't agree with anyone who says that Fihlo should be stripped of his title. Paulo has a problem and is taking care of it in a responsible manner, why should he be punished for that?

Also, for those who say that Paulo's win of Sonnen was lucky and that Chael has his number... does that mean you think that Nog's win over Sylvia was lucky and that Tim has Nog's number?
