As the sport of mixed martial arts continues to grow at an incredible rate, so too does the talent pool from which the UFC has to choose from when fine tuning its roster. As a result, most fighters get a little nervous about their future after losing back-to-back fights inside the Octagon.

Then again, Randy Couture isn’t like most fighters.

On the heels of his unanimous decision loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 102 on August 29, the hall-of-famer and five-time champion has confirmed a new UFC contract that will secure his services for up to six fights in the span of 28 months.

The new deal supersedes his contract from September 2008, when “The Natural” returned from a bitter contract dispute to defend his title against Brock Lesnar at UFC 91.

I want him to fight well into his fifties. He'll be the good version of Ron Van Clief.

This came out of left field. Maybe an unprecedented Randy Liddell 4 somewhere down the road?

a move down to 205??? he doesn't have much more to prove or any higher to climb in the heavyweight division for a while, and there are a ton of interesting matchups for him at 205.

Hope he is able to do all six fights and doesnt have any long term injuries from them. It looks like from the Nog fight, that he still has a lot in him and he can still protect himself pretty well

his chin looks like it's getting a little battleworn. Nog has never been known for his punching power but Randy looked pretty rocked off of quite a few shots. Amazing sub defense though. At this point Randy looks to be pretty much un-submittable, at least at heavyweight.

I think Anderson would KO him very quickly.

Well good for Randy but I'm not sure if he can finish out the full contract from what I seen this weekend.

1. His head movement was slower than it has been in the past and could be easily timed by someone with just fair stand up.
2. He also looked all around slower.
3. His chin didn't look like the Randy of old.
4. His footwork wasn't near as good as I have seen it in the past. Randy has great footwork and maybe the slow down I was seeing was making his footwork look bad but it just didn't seam like it was the Randy I'm use to seeing.
5. Randy's clinch work wasn't as good as its been in the past. His last fight with Lesnar his clinch game looked great but something just didn't look right with it this time.

Now I'm not taking anything from Nog. He looked much better than he did in the fight with Mir but I don't see him ever getting the tittle again. He still showed his old problem of no head movement at all and his speed wasn't near as fast as some of the other HW's. Even with Randy looking slower than normal he was able to land some hard shots on Nog. But Randy just doesn't have much power. Now if Nog faced one of the up and coming HW's I have a feeling it would end with Nog out cold or getting TKOed.

But all that a side it was a great fight. I just wish it could have happened a few years ago. But it was still fun to see two top 10 fighters that are legends go at it. I wish Randy the best of luck and will still love to see him fight.

I'm not sure the move to 205 is such a good idea.

The lighter divisions produce faster strikers and although I'm a huge Randy fan his reaction time will continue to slow with age... I wouldn't wanna see him get picked apart by the likes of a Rashad Evans or Lyoto Machida.

Power is easier to maintain than speed and his skill will always be there. I think Randy needs to stay heavy...
