During his 14-year MMA career, Randy Couture has ditched the UFC no less than three times — once in 1998 to pursue opportunities in Japan, the second time due to a short-lived retirement in 2006 following his second knockout loss to Chuck Liddell, and finally in 2007 due to a money disputes and a perceived lack of respect. Each time, the lure of competition has brought him back to his home in the Octagon. But there’s only so much a 47-year-old can take, and after a series of vague hints in recent months, it seems like Randy is preparing us for his final departure, seriously, for real this time.

I'm a big fan but I think this makes sense.

twice were for moeny/other fights but he's only seriously retired once, so if he retired again i'd believe him

I think whether he wins or loses against Machida he needs to retire. If he loses it is a respectable loss to end his career and if he wins he could go out on top.

Had Shogun had gotten past Jones I don't think he would have retired but now win or lose it seems to make sense, unless Tito or Chuck (both heavily unlikely and I admit that) are willing to retire officially with him

All the odds are stacked against him once again but that is where Randy thrives if he beats Machida I don't see him retiring because Machida is a top LHW in the world and if Randy gets past him he could potentially make another run at the title. But if he loses espicially in devestating fashion I think he'll call it quits he has done everything a fighter can do in the sport and has nothing left to prove to the fans or himself.

Randy has my undying support no matter what....

No other fighter has given me so many "holly S%*t" moments. When he fought Big Tim my heart was about to pound its way out of my chest.

WAR RANDY!!

I support Randy no matter what, but honestly if he wins I would love to see him fight Rampage or Shogun.
