"Jon Jones is a great champion, but me in my prime, I was devastating. I was vicious. Nobody could stop me. Of course I could beat him in my prime Jon Jones is in his prime now, so you compare it to something like Ali v Tyson in boxing. You'll never know because it's two different generations. I don't ever want to talk smack about Jones because he's a great role model of the sport but in my prime, I wouldn't count myself out - that's for sure. I would never disrespect him. It'd be a very close fight, a decision. But in my prime I was the best in the world."

Which Jon Jones, though? The younger one when he was first on the scene? Maybe Tito could have beaten him, but I doubt it.

But, the Jon Jones now? Don't think so.

I don't think Ortiz in his prime could have beaten Jones at any time. Ortiz was a 1 dimensional fighter when he was in his prime, takedowns and GnP. Doubt he could get Jones down or keep him down.

Ortiz was at his best when guys could get away with being 1 dimensional. Hughes, Ortiz, Liddell.

Tito, good buddy, did you also happen to hit your big melon on Jenna's recreational "pole"

Jon Jones 5 months old would make Tito cry out "injuries"

Tito is day dreaming. He's trying to show that he would be as dominate as Jones and to me that's for the era he was champ in he was a beast but to say that you could take on and beat the guys of this era is

I hope he brings that fu manchu to the octagon on Saturday

I think prime Tito has as a better chance than most people think. He wouldn't fear getting hit when he shoots for a TD (like Evans was), and his TDs were very effective. We haven't really seen Jones fend off a strong TD attempt, nor do we know anything about his guard game...and we know how great Tito's gnp was back in the day

I doubt Tito could have ever beat Jones. These new breed of MMA athletes like Jones coming up are cross training from day one unlike the old school MMA stars who originally came into this sport with one strong base of Martial arts. Jones, Dos santos and even Aldo are 3 fighters who can do it all. Either one of them will be very tough to beat. Tito in his prime didn't fight anyone of this calibre so its difficult to say though doubtful if Tito would ever of had a chance in beating Jones.

You kidding? Ortiz barely beat Ken Shamrock post-prime! Tito is nothing compared to anybody close or at the "legend" status. But I want to see Bisping lose(sorry off topic)

I agree with Bubbles.

You guys are selling Tito short.

I'm not saying I think he would win the hypothetical match up. But I wouldn't count him out at all. If I had to make odds for that fight I would put Tito at +120.

Obviously Jones is way more well rounded than Tito. Tito's stand up has been better recently than it ever was in his prime. But I think that there is something to be said about really good 1-dimensional fighters, or as Joe likes to call them "specialists."

Tito didn't need to box because he could take down almost anyone in the sport. I would give prime Tito a pretty good chance at getting Jones down. Could he keep him down? Probably not. Could he take him down enough times to win the fight? Probably not. Could he stop Jon Jones' throws? Probably not. But he could make the wrestling even enough to slow down Jon Jone's stand-up game and probably survive to a decision.

The tricky part about this conversation is that Tito had a short lived prime. He was injured early and often and he never looked the same after his first long lay-off.

I think so many of the new fans (and some of the old fans) don't give enough credit to the old guard though.

I think a prime Mark Coleman, for instance, could take down the vast majority of current day UFC HW's and smash them into bits. Coleman today would be more successful than Brock today because Coleman can actually take a punch.

You'd still have Tito at +120 even though he probably couldnt take Jones down enough times to win the fight?

Personally i'd have him around +350, with extra respect given.
