As Im sure most of you know me and Jay (jjeans) host a weekly podcast where we interview MMA guests. We've been running for about 14 weeks and up to know are listining figures are normall quite low (on average 50 a week). This week we had Ian McCall on which was big guest for us to get and are embed stats have goe through the roof.

Are embed stats for the last 5 days are 582 listens. Im not to sure what that means in regards to listeners.

This is what Podomatic says:

Embeds

Embeds are also known as Embed Loads. An embed is counted when we recieve a request for embedded player data from a domain that is not PodOmatic.com. Some sites, including Facebook, cache player data, meaning that they will only request this data a handful of times per day.

So does that mean we've been listened to 582 times in the last 5 days? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

An embed is a watch from any other site that embedded the video. For instance, there are youtube videos in the video section here. Any views from the PG or any other site that embeds the video will count toward that total. If someone embedded the podcast to a site with high visibility, it would be normal to see a spike in views, like you are describing.

But weve gone from 50 a week to over 500 in 5 days, would they class as listens then?

Yeah, they are listens, but just from another source. It's important on the back end to separate the two so you know where the listens are coming from. It's possible the podcast was embedded on McCall's website or something like that where there's several hundred people might give it a listen, where otherwise they might not know it exists.

It's possible, as it really depends on what podomatic considers an embed. I'm guessing it's only considered an embed when the embed code is used though.

There is a download figure so I think that's seperate to embed!
