This came up in a thread about the UFC hall of fame a while ago and I started thinking about it. It makes sense to me that he make it in.
First ever lightweight champ
Defended it twice against against:
Dennis Hallman who beat Matt Hughes twice
BJ Penn who is one of the best p4p and extremely dominant at the time no matter how much I dislike him
6-2-1 in the UFC isn't a bad record. One of those losses was to BJ who has become one of the best in the world since their first fight
He fought in different orgs but so did Coleman who is being considered last I heard

I think that could be enough to get him in when he retires. He's also fighting in the WEC now which is Zuffa owned so it's pretty close to the UFC. What does everyone think does he have a shot?

Dude he's damn near guarenteed the slot.

That's what I was thinking. He's doesn't get brought up often when I see the hall of fame threads though so I was just wondering what everyone else was thinking about it.

i think jens is right on the border. it's hard to say. but when exactly did he beat hughes twice??? i seemed to have missed that...

Jens didn't beat Hughes twice. Hallman did. I was just saying it shows Hallman is a pretty legit competitor I guess it wasn't very clear.

I can't see how the UFC can't put him in there. As you said he was the first LW champ and has a impressive record over some tough fighters.
Also the selling point for me is, he always has killer hair!

With arguments like that how can the UFC turn him down?!

ok i was just begining to gather that. yea he really could be in or out, he runs a fine border. i think he should, but the ufc dosen't seem to like to put many fighters in the hall.

It's true that they don't seem to want to load it up but that's a good thing. They only want the guys who are the very best and done the most things in the sport in the HOF. But Jens helped build the LW division and I'd say he has done enough for the company to earn his spot.

Pulver is a good bet later down the road for the HOF for historys sake. If he beats Urijah Faber he's in there. any defenses of the WEC Featherweight title just lock it up.

He went undefeated in the UFC and left because they dropped that weight class. His first loss in the UFC didn't come till years later after 155 weight class was added back in and it isn't even his true weight class he should be at FW which he is now. He is a hall of famer hands down.

There isnt a doubt in my mind that Jens will make it into the hall of fame look at all he did for the LW division the guy is awesome and he definetely deserves to be in

I agree 100% that he will go the hall of fame, well he deserves it anyways. First UFC lightweight champ, 6-2-1. Also he possesses that knockout power which is extremely rare among lightweights, especially him being naturally 155. So glad he's in WEC fighting in the FW division, he's going to knock Urijah out in the 3rd!!

WAR LITTLE EVIL!

Yeah Pulver definitely deserves a spot. Especially if he beats Faber. THAT would be amazing.

I just threw Jens Pulver out there in the HOF thread a few days ago, i wasn't expecting this many people to be down with him... just doesn't seem like a whole lot of Pulver love on this site, but i guess its just beneath the surface. I think Pulver is a shoe in for a HOF spot, and i hope he can wipe the smile of Faber's face! Go Lil Evil!

I would have to give Pulver a definate yes on the UFC Hall of Fame. The guy basically helped the Lightweight division get started (along with BJ Penn). So that alone should get him in. He's also had some of the most exciting fights I've seen. Nuff said.

Just do not see him a Hall of Famer, he does has a good record but as far as being a good spokesperson he really has not done much in my eyes. It take more than just a great record to be inducted. Someone has to be a pioneer in the sport, be a great representative in the sport and become a household name to be considered for any Hall of fame in any sport. Becoming a champion is one thing but having a champions personality is another.

He has a great record but, just seems like he missed his chance to become more of a fan favorite. Could be wrong timing.

Even if he came back to the UFC and fought a record of 2-3-1 he would still be in for his past.

Compare Pulver's accomplishments to what others in the hall of fame and those are are soon to be have done. Pulver pales in comparison to the exploits of Liddell, Couture, Hughes and Ortiz and so many others. Pulver should get props for what he has done, but there is no way that he is elite enough to garner the level of UFC hall of famer. The only people he has beaten worth noting are BJ Penn and Caol Uno, every other major fight he has had he has lost because he swings for the fences.

I respect Pulver and his heart, but just because he won a title one time does not mean he is a shoe in for the hall of fame.

The fact is he is undefeated at 145 isnt he? Thats pretty dang impressive when you consider the talent he has faced and beat.
Of course Pulver gets in IMO.
And of course he was the reason the UFC now has promising lightweight star.......Joe Lauzon!!

He will but it will be in a longer time than we expect. A couple years from now, I think people will see his accomplishments as way more important to the org and he will get in. I believe Penn will get in first though

i could see either side, i think he does based on him being the only champ until they lightweight division split, however isnt it sort of his fault the ufc lost the lightweight division cus he left or was it the penn/uno 2 draw that resulted in a failed resurection of the division (BJ got screwed on that fight) or something else, im not sure why the lightweight division left for so long, but most likely he will go hall of fame someday
