hahaha, i had to ask, would be an awesome fight deffinetly, i mean pat went 14-0 before losing and then dominated up until newton beat him, and hughes was the fuckin man, two sperate 5 defense title runs, and that trigg rivalry, this is good matchup

I'll be honest, I haven't seen that much footage of Miletich fighting. It would be hard to pick against, arguably, the best fighter of his time, Hughes. I think Matt would dominate him everywhere, maybe except standing.

I see no way for Miletich to beat Hughes

Hughes all day long. The student surpassed the master in this case.

The funny thing about this question is my brother and I were asking this same question last night. We were watching UFC 29 (Miletich vs Yamamoto) and I was saying how much Hughes and Miletich were similar. They actually have a lot of the same traits. I think Hughes takes it in the wrestling and brute strength department but Pat takes it in the striking, quickness, and BJJ. With all things considered I'd go with Hughes by UD. I feel that Matt's wrestling is good enough to put Pat on his back and GnP his way to a Unanimous Decision

I was a huge Miletich fan because he was one of the first well rounded fighters in the game and fought good fights, but if Mikey Burnett could manhandle him Hughes could at least lay-n-pray a decision over him.

Matt Hughes in his prime vs any 170lbs man on the planet?
Matt Hughes.
I only know Pat Miletich from his UFC fights an I always thought he was over rated and found him quite boring to watch fight.
In his fight with Mikey Burnett I thought Burnett won and if I remember rightly from Miletich's reaction he thought Burnett had won as well.
I think Hughes would have destroyed Miletich rd1 tko, and even if he didnt tko him he could defo sub him.
If he could choke out Almeida, armbar GSP then I think he could have subbed Miletich.

No way, Hughes would have steamrolled Sakuraba. It wouldn't have been entertaining (Hughes would probably lnp), but Sakuraba never fought an individual like Hughes. The closest, in terms of strength, Sakuraba ever fought was Rampage, but Rampage was extremely green at the time.

I too think Hughes would win, but you think Hughes would out-box Miletich? Interesting.
Maybe I'm a bit blinkered but like I said, I never rated Miletich.
I think Sakuraba would have subbed Hughes, and also been able to out stike him on the feet, especially as he out struck Belfort!

I remember there first fight, Hughes completely under estimated Penn, the look on his face was priceless!

i think thats different though, hyea sukuraba was awesome, but him and hughes were on different levels in their primes, hughes would beat him i think, i mean it took sakuraba over an hour to do what took hughes only 4 minutes against royce gracie
