On my views on what a government should do for is people i lean towards the liberal side, although both parties tend to be equally inadequate at their job.

I would gladly pay 2/3 of my paycheck to taxes if it was to ensure that everyone in the country was well fed, and not living abyssmal depressing lives.

Maybe i should move to canada... iunno

See.. I do not view that as the governments job.. The Gov't should protect the people from forigen enemies, coin money and help those who have no way of helping themselves.. those way to old to work who have no family.. and those medically incapable of supporting themselves who have no family.. and create laws that protect people.. like the various labor laws and such... other then that.. let free enterprise reign

It really doesn't make sense to me what liberals want. Regardless if I give 2/3 of my paycheck, the government only has that much of everyone's paycheck to try to feed and protect us as a "whole." Whenever government looking at the people as a whole rather than an individual, your looking more at a communist idea than capitalist.

All it comes down to really is the people who want to actually go out and seek opprotunities, make an honest living, and not be bothered by government OR those who would just sacrifice most of what they make to feel secure and force everyone else to pitch in as well.

Independant Conservative was my vote only cause the Republicans are getting corrupt and getting nothing done. I think thats why we are starting to see a candidate like McCain (who I supported in 2000 as well), rather than Romney and Guiliani. McCain is willing to work with the Democrats and though that has pissed off many Republicans, its shows he is looking to get things done and not wasting years building walls between sides.

Socialist, not Communist, and capitalism has its faults just like socialism does. I just feel a governments worth can be seen in how well it treats its lowliest and weakest citizens, with our (America) government the powers at the helm of the ship seem to not give a shit about anyone who is not either putting money in the pocket.

There are many citizens out there that cannot make an honest living due to where they are unlucky enough to be born alone, i guess it really takes experience being dirtpoor to truly understand it, but when youre born into extreme poverty and the enviornment you are surrounded by is hostile and hopeless... the chance of escaping that situation is minimal. You can look for a way out but its literally a million times easier said than done.

I have no ill will towards Mccain other than the whole supporting of the "no child left behind" stance
Other than that im glad its a candidate like him going against a candidate like Obama for leader rather than a candidate like Kerry going against a candidate like bush




BTW I do not intend for this thread to turn into a flaming war, if my opinions on a certain matter of incited someones fury just simply say so and i will try to reword it. I just hate to see threads about politics turn into utter dogshit.

yes please people keep this from turning into a flame war.. my idea was to talk politics in general and keep the current elections out of the picture there are other threads for that...

I simply do not see it a the governments job to take care of people just because they were born into a bad situation.. if they do that.. people are never going to try and accomplish things.. there has to be a reward for hard work.. most democrats in my opinion want everyone to be equal regardless of how hard someone works... Captilism is not always perfect and people are left behind.. but luckily there are enough good people where if they had the chance to make more money and be successful they would help those less fortuante then themselves.. I know I would and will if my plans for my business succed... I think money makes you more of what you are... if your a good person you'll be better.. if your a jerk.. you'll just be a bigger jerk.

I think you can agree with me that Welfare and Workers Comp is a ****** up system right now with slackers getting the money while others continue to suffer. Also education has gone bad but money doesnt seem to always fix that either. I would blame a lot of it on worse teachers who no longer care and programs that force schools to make sure they dont hurt students by saying their wrong.

I agree with your Bush/Kerry comment all the way and its BS that Bush took the Republican ticket. The only thing he has done right in my eyes is the war and appointing supreme court memebers. That is about it.

I'm registered as an Independent because I don't agree with either of the major parties. The entire political system is devised to keep the rich in power and to convince everyone else that they have a shot at the "American Dream." But in reality, there is very little upward social/economic mobility.

The American government specializes in distractions (war, homosexuality, abortion) to have you believe that they are doing anything except tightening their grip on our personal freedoms, making it all the easier to do whatever the hell they want behind the scenes.

And to make government even more ineffectual, the entire process is clouded by the deep pockets of lobbyists and companies who buy politicians wholesale.

The American political process is a scam designed by the founding fathers to make sure that when we gained independence from England that only wealthy white men had any say in government and it took almost 200 years to become anywhere near equal for all.

I'll stop there before this gets any longer. Everyone needs a good rant sometimes.

I'm Independent although I tend to find myself leaning a little more Democrat but sometimes I agree with the Republicans. I just prefer not to be with one party and have all the pressure on me to vote for their candidates or havign to break rank to vote for the other side.

I'll have to go with "Other" as I support Labour!
