So I was looking back over my playground history (almost 5 years now) and I realized that I've never had a perfect event.
I've had several events where I only got one fight wrong, but I've never had the perfect score. Some of the picks that prevented me from getting that score look like dumb decisions in retrospect but others make me feel like I got robbed. Here's just a few examples of what I'm talking about:
UFC 135: I picked Ben Rothwell over Mark Hunt. This wasn't even one of the picks I was worried about. Hunt surprised me and ruined my card.
UFC 84: I picked War Machine over Yoshida. Knowing what I know about War Machine now, this looks like a really dumb pick.
UFC 143: This one still makes me angry. I picked Diaz over Condit. Not only do I still feel like Diaz won, I also never expected the usually exciting Condit to utilize the strategy that he did. Like I said....still very upset about this.
So my questions are these:
1) Have you ever gotten a perfect score? If so, how did you feel about it? Do you think it is mostly luck or are you just that awesome?
2) Have you had any events where you got robbed from having a perfect score? Have you had any events where one really stupid pick prevented you from getting a perfect score?
Disclaimer: Even though I mentioned it in this post, I really don't want this thread to be a discussion of Diaz vs Condit. That was just an example.

1. Yes. I felt pretty nice, but I realized it was luck. However, "A real man makes his own luck." So, I guess my picks were good.
2. Not sure if I've been robbed, I'm sure I have, but it is what it is. My season picks thus far for this season I think have been pretty poor.

Ive done it once (the weidman v Munoz event) it was bitter sweet for me as I usually bet a tenner on the whole card (parlay) and I didnt for this event, would have won about a grand real cash, still pleased to get all the correct winners. Ironically that wasnt my highest finish though. My highest finish was TUF live, I finished third, I go all fights right except for Chiesa beating Iaquinta.

I was wondering how many people got a perfect score. I've only picked one event with all winners. Don't think I've ever gotten close to a perfect score.

Great thread BJJ!
1) I've had one perfect UFC event, UFC on FUEL 4. I went 11-0. It felt good, but kind of shitty at the same time because my rank for the event was #363!!! So I'm guessing either a lot of people also went 11-0 and or a lot of people did significantly better picking finishes. And while I don't know if we are counting secondary league, I have 2 perfects there. 10-0 on the Rockhold-Jardine combo card (93 pts... 4th place! Heartbreakingly close to top score) and 7-0 on the Bellator 68 combo card.
As for whether it's luck or skill, I'd say it has to be a combination of both. The fights need to play out almost exactly as you see them in your head to get that perfect event. As we know, the unforeseen happens quite often in MMA, in and out of the cage!
2) I was the victim of a stupid pick a couple of times. UFC 126 I went 10-1, missing only the main event... Forrest Griffin vs. Rich Franklin. I picked Franklin, and Griffin won a UD. I feel stupid about that one because I went to look at that card and see which fight I missed, and I could have sworn I had Griffin in that fight....
UFC 131 I went 11-1, missing the Nick Ring - James Head fight by picking Head. I think I just picked him based on his win over Gerald Harris, which I hadn't even seen
UFC 133 I went 10-1. I picked Paul Bradley over Rafael Natal. I couldn't even tell you who the hell Paul Bradley is... probably a TUF alumni. I don't think I had seen Natal fight at that point. Natal is another Stefan Struve for me, I pick him and he loses, pick against him and he wins.
Edit: I'm with Rabi. Although FUEL 4 is my only card to get all winners, I was ranked higher in literally every other event I mentioned in this post. I've never gotten higher than in the 40's in points for an individual UFC. I had a couple top 15's in L2.

I've only gotten a perfect card in the secondary league. I've had 12 cards where I was 1 away (most recently the last event) but I haven't had the perfect card yet.

I kinda jumbled my words in the first post by saying both "perfect score" and "perfect event."
I don't really mean perfect.
In other words, even if you didn't pick all of the finishes correctly, did you choose all the correct winners?
You guys have a point. I've gone 10-1, 12-1, 9-1, ect. about 6 or 7 times but those weren't necessarily my best scores.
Its my fault for not making it clear, but again, I mean picking all the right winners not getting all the points.

I picked Vaughn Lee over Dillashaw. I think I was swayed by Vaughn upsetting Yamamoto. I got 75 points
UFC 146 Dos Santos vs Mir I went 10-2
I picked Barboza (like almost everyone) and Brandao, but I also got 99 points and 7th place overall, so overall I'm happiest with this score.
Like most people, I think my highest scores were not the events in which I picked the most winners, they were the events in which I picked the finishes and hot bouts.
In a way, this skews the rankings a little. In my opinion picking winners is more important than picking finish methods/times. Sure, all criteria should be used when deciding rankings, but again, imo picking a winner > picking a finish, and too many points are awarded for picking finishes.

Oh and I know you didn't want to discuss this, but by using it as an example, you kinda got the ball rolling. Huge Condit fan, huge Diaz fan. Condit won fair and square, if Nick didn't like his gameplan, he had plenty of time to do something about it.

Twice I've finished with no losses on my card and 6 times with only 1.
The 2 "perfects" were a 9-0 UFC 91 Lesnar vs Couture, and the 2nd was a 12-0 UFC 128 Shogun vs Jones.
Neither of those landed me anywhere near the top of the event leaderboard though so I could use a lot of work at picking finishes.

Nope never, it was brought up a few years ago and still nobody. Cant even find someone who was 1 pick off with the method or round etc.

I went 10-1 on this card and finished 14th. Had the judges actually watched the fight and picked the correct winner, Diaz, I would have been 11-0 and 112 points...and probably a top 5 finish. This will probably be my best event ever and it will forever bother me what could have been
TUF 14 Finale: 9-1, picked Pague to beat Albert. Only other event to only have 1 wrong

I went 10-1 too. Same story as bubbs basically, he was ahead of me by 2 points I think. I remember talking about it in the van. I was and still am on the Diaz winning 48-47 side.

It's bound to happen eventually. I agree, whoever does that definitely deserves a personalized badge.
The Don King badge or the Playground Nation badge. Something like that. I'll let you know what I want it to be named Sunday morning
