That ending is ridiculous! I mean seriously Kim Winslow has to be one of the worse refs out there. Albert never tapped physically or verbally and Winslow calls the fight? Very sad ending to what was becoming a very good fight. I'm just pissed I have to watch her ref more fights tonight.

She is terrible. It almost looked like she was running her fingers through her hair, admiring how long and luxurious it was.

JOHN ALBERT: "No, I never submitted. I was trying to get out, I started to yell, and then the referee stopped it.''

from twitter

well, we've seen before you can't yell or scream or whatever because the refs will stop it.

TJ Grant vs Shane Roller. After that fight, TJ said something like refs warn you about the yelling or whatever

ok that was a horrible stoppage, but did you guys see the sicilia vs marcello stoppage, marcello took like 8 or 9 shots to the head after he was un-concious probably the latest stoppage ive ever seen in the ufc !

Dana said on twitter that he's always cleaning up bad refs messes and is giving Albert his win bonus.

Doesn't help me out on the loss I took for Albert losing on here...lol!

only reason I could come up with is that she thought Albert's arm broke or something. But still that was horseshit

Also Chael vs Filho the first time.

Screaming in pain is usually considered a form of verbal submission.

There is nothing wrong with stopping the fight if one guy is yelling in pain.

i'd be ok if i never see her ref again. this aint the amateurs, if somebody is willing to fight through a sub like that the ref needs to let him do it. the fighter should kn ow when to tap and should be smart enough not to let his arm get broke for his career's sake. in BJJ tournaments, the refs will let a competitor get his shit ripped off and never bat an eye.

I hate to be cliche, but the ref's first job is to protect the fighters safety. Sometimes that means protecting them from themselves.

Tim Silvia was made when his fight with Frank Mir got stopped (I think the ref was Herb Dean?) He never tapped and felt cheated. He later realized that the ref had saved him from a possible career ending injury.

Also I'm not sure what BJJ tournaments you're talking about.

Maybe in Abu Dubai what you said is true. In all of the tournaments I've competed in, verbal submission includes screaming. They tell you at the rules meeting.

I liked Albert, he looked great inside the UFC. But he has a hole in his ground game. He looked pretty good against Ivan until he gassed.

New Camp please!

I didn't hear Albert scream, he might have or did, but I couldn't hear it.

I heard the Chael Sonnen one against Filho.

But what is a fighter suppose to do when someone is bending their arm back and trying to defend it? Be quiet?

Agreed. He has looked really good his last few fights, but seems to have a mental lapse, and ends up losing. Hope he tightens up his game.

How Kim Winslow has stayed a ref when she'd obviously be the hottest UFC ring girl is beyond me.

For the record though,

I agree that Winslow is an awful referee.

I actually didn't watch this fight. I'm just talking about in general.

On the podcast, Albert said that Winslow admitted there was no verbal submission. Dennis Hallman (Albert's coach), Albert, and Winslow all went to the official table and Winslow admitted that there wasn't a verbal tap, instead she just didn't want his arm to get hurt.

Obviously, this is outside the bounds of a pro fight. The ref can only call a submission with a tap, a yell of agony (not a grunt), or a lack of response.

Ugh. Link's below if you wanna listen.
