B.J. Penn says Sean Sherk's UFC belt no better than Marion Jones' medals

B.J. Penn has his eye on Sean Sherk's UFC lightweight title, so he may not be the most neutral observer when it comes to Sherk's positive drug test at UFC 73. But the Hawaii mixed martial arts fighter known as The Prodigy doesn't mince words when it comes to Sherk.

The UFC has matched Penn against Joe Stevenson in January at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England, for the interim 155-pound championship, while Sherk appeals his test for steroids.

"Sean Sherk can say it's a fake interim title, but his belt is no more real that Marion Jones' gold medals," Penn told a gathering of the UFC Fight Club before Friday's weigh-in for UFC 78 at the Prudential Center.

Sherk's belt is not at the same level of the others UFC champ for sure !!

I always try to be cautious about the Sherk steroid test, i want to wait the final jugement but he is not the best guy to talk about the legitimity of a fight for sure !!

I really don't like BJ. I think he talks way too much shit. I know he's a really good fighter but I can't stand to hear him talk. I know it's a given that he's gonna say something about Sherk's whole steroid thing but I'm just getting sick of him. I think it was the season he coached on the Ultimate Fighter that made me dislike him the most. But hey, that's all just my opinion.

With Sherk though I find it tough to dislike him because he PASSED the lie detector test that said he had NO knowledge of taking steriods and also there was a steriod found in one of his Xyience suppliments(which of bunch of UFC fighters take, and UFC endorses)....

Penn can think what he wants about Sherk but these two will fight one day and Penn will LOSE, and you know what Penn is going to say? "It doesn't count cause Sherk takes roids" People need to suck it up, have you seen Sherk train? Not saying Sherk has never takin roids and not saying he has, a lot of athletes did even 5 years ago, which probably includes many fighters. You could make a case that possibly Ken Shamrock was taking them in his Prime. You never know. And he is a Hall of Famer...

People just need to let it pass and move on. Hopefully now fighters will be more aware of the Suppliments they take....I know Sherk will.....

I am sure that Penn knew Sherk would hear about what he said. I would be willing to bet to that he would have no problem telling it to Sherk's face either as Penn is going to whoop his a** when they fight after he beats Stevenson. I'm glad Penn said it! Someone had to. Sherk was juicing, he didn't cycle off of it properly and he got caught. Now he is looking for the Barry Bonds ignorance excuse to get out of getting caught. I don't care if his products were tainted,(allegedly as I don't believe it for a second). Being a professional athlete, especially one that is as health conscious as sherk, you should pay attention to everything your putting in your body. To say you didn't know that you can buy illegal products over the counter is ridiculous. Everyone knows that, unless you're stupid!

BTW this is not fighter bashing, just my humble opinion, and the truth for that matter. Be a man Sherk and admit what you did.

I agree with BJ. Sherk's title means nothing.
I believe steroids or no steroids...Sherk would have eventually been dethroned anyhow...look at the division.

When illegal performance enhancement substances are used it ruins the integrity of the sport, invalidates many matches and titles and in general ruins it for the fair fighters and for us the fans.
If you can't win by training and skill alone and have to resort to those kind of tactics...you really need to analyze what kind of person you really are.
Cheat, scam, deceive and lie...where does it end?
Did Sean Sherk cheat in school? Does he cheat on his taxes? etc.

I understand his feeling about steroids, but give the man his appeals process! He's tested clean for years, he's legendary as the hardest working fighter in the game.

He's got great genetics and he works harder than anybody since Alexander Karelin. Innocent until proven guilty in America, people!

generally i agree "innocent until proven guilty" and i think it should be that way as far as official action is concerned. that said, him being found not guilty is a far cry from innocent and im sure there were not that many people who were truly surprised to find out that sherk was taking performace enhancing drugs. the courtroom is one thing but the court of public opinions is another and a not guilty verdict will not change my mind on whether or not he used the roids. im willing to give him another chance, just not willing to really change my mind about his guilt.

I'm not saying he should never fight again or anything. I believe he did it, I'd always assumed him to, personally. Doesn't mean he did. You won't change my mind. I support Josh Barnett again. It isn't something you can't move past, but it's history. And he already has been found guilty, he has an appeal. Guilty until appeal is won.

really, he tested clean before, ok....so besides the ufc where has he gotten tested, im sure hes done roids before like this is the first time....yeah.... pride didnt have drug testing, why should a smaller organizations have them. besides i can see people overlooking tests to get the popular fighters fighting again, sort of like juicing before football games or those same people sliding through school or the pros because the football team needs them to win, its no different than sherks situation, get over it sherk, YOU GOT CAUGHT, hows that for neutral yall.
