just thinking of things you should not try and save money on, or in other words what do you truly get what you pay for.
just a couple from me are, dont try and save money on:

Tattoos- seen too many shity tattoos that the person got a "good deal" on
Surgeries- just get the best you can afford, they guy doing your surgery in an alley for 60 bucks, probably not a good idea

what else do you think fits the list

Clothing, perhaps. Sometimes you can save some money buying stuff at Wal-Mart and usually it's good but I've had a couple things that I wore once or twice and then they just fell apart. I probably got the wrong sizes though. Other than that, from past experience I'd have to say electronics.

disagree with both of those responses. you pay for a label with clothes, not quality. Other than like a tailored suit generally you can get way cheaper clothes that are virtually identical to brand name clothing. Computer parts is sort of true but it's another thing that you can get big discounts on by shopping around at the right places, reading benchmark reviews, buying OEM, etc. There are frequently significantly cheaper computer parts that will benchmark comparatively or better than their more expensive counterparts.

I don't think either of those really fall under his description. I would shop around for better prices on both of those things whereas with something like surgery I agree, I will take the most expensive one, no questions asked.

along the prostitutes line, never skimp on strippers for bachelor parties or escorts either. It's never worth it.

I see your logic in that argument. I guess I wasn't specific enough, though. I certainly would advise shopping around to anyone looking to buy computer parts, but if for example you found two motherboards that did the exact same thing (or at least are listed as doing the exact same thing by their respective manufacturers) like having the same number of PCI and memory slots, onboard sound, LAN, etc. etc. you'd pretty much always be doing yourself a favor in buying the more expensive one built by ASUS or something as compared to a cheap brand. Same goes for memory. A 1GB stick of Joeblow's Memory Inc. vs. a stick of Corsair or something like that.

Although I do agree that a better argument would be prostitutes. As someone who lived in Europe for 4 years, I can definitely ahem... shall we say "vouch" for that argument

Food, if you buy a $1 steak i'll promise you'll regret it but if you spend like $10 on a steak you'll be sitting pretty with a awesome steak on the grill.

I say this from working on cars forever, you get what you pay for with car maintenance. Ive found that If you show you know anything about your car, your not a d-bag or you dont say things like "my thingy is leaking green stuff" you have a better chance of not getting screwed over and a less chance of upselling (sometimes necessary) but if you trust your technician or place that always works on your car and gives you fair prices then thats what I mean. Car maintenance in general could be more expensive and ppl would pay for it because they dont know jack about cars and because of this almost all car companies are suffering because of this recession.

This reminds me...never skimp out on doctors. Always go with the guy that has a good reputation but won't tell your friends what you came in for...

ive delivered furniture for a long time now and one way to just save money on all overpriced furniture is to just by the floor model because half the time you pay extra for a brand new one you end up getting the floor model anyways...

i have literally taken the plastic wraps off a brand new couch and put them over the floor model...

kinda of goes along the lines of this thread

I don't know if this is the same thing, but I think Netflix is a great deal, if you ahve the pakage with more than 3 DVD's, and a Roku box/X-box with it. That wauy yuou not only get 3 DVD'S at a time, but you also can watch a ton of things on your TV at home for the same price.

As someone said on computer parts, the brand for the most part is solid, but yes always shop around. You can find some insane deals sometimes. IE. www.Delloutlets.com

Now, one of the biggest things that I can say is dealing with people that think they know what they are doing on the computers, and they charging 35-45$ on hour. People think they are getting a steal, then when I go back and look @ half the **** they ****** up on. Yea, that's why I charge a ton more. Don't like it, fine. Just don't complain to me when half your **** is micky dicked backwards, and you end up spending 3x the amount you would have if you just went with me ^_^.
