For the years of modern mma/nhb, who would you pick as the fighter or the year for each year?

My choices:

2006 Chuck Liddell
2005 Takanori Gomi
2004 Fedor Emelianenko
2003 Fedor Emelianenko
2002 Antonio Rodriguio Nogueira
2001 Wanderlei Silva
2000 Kazushi Sakuraba
1999 Kazushi Sakuraba
1998 Frank Shamrock
1997 Masakatsu Funaki
1996 Bas Rutten (edited from Severn, thought ultimate-ultimate was 96, it was 95)
1995 Ken Shamrock
1994 Royce Gracie
1993 Royce Gracie

BTW, I wish they had an organization like Ring magazine to do this in a semi-official way. It would be a good way to give guys some credit and notoriety.

Although Gomi had a great year in 05, I think Shogun would really have to be fighter of the year. He went 5-0, and had arguably the most impressive GP run ever... Defeating, Rampage, Lil Nog, Overeem, and Arona (also KO'd Kanehara that year)

Might have put Wand in 03, but it's hard to argue with Fedor...

I really like the Funaki call for 97 and Nog in 02...

Ahhh...I agree with Shogun in 2005--overlooked him. I won't be a wuss and change my post, though. I'm stuck with my #2 choice for posterity (unless someone bumps him even lower)

I say if Rampage KO's Henderson or Sub's him i think 2007 goes to him, ko-ed liddell with a 1 punch ko in like 3 minutes, then if he beats the pride champ.. .wow...
