New thing i'm going to do, untill i get negative reviews or something. I was wondering what your opinions would be if certain things in MMA hadn't happened, or had different consequences, Beggining at UFC 1, if you have any other ideas please feel free to PM me

My thought for this week/day/moment is back in 1993 at UFC 1

What if the tournment would have finished differently:

Teila Tuli was able too get his big body ontop of Savate specialist and won
And Royce Gracie failed too defeat Ken Shamrock
Resulting in a Shamrock Vs Tuli Final with Shamrock winning

How would have MMA today be different?

The early UFC's was a way to show case Gracie Ju Jitsu. As soon as Gracie was overwhelmed in the UFC he left ( UFC 5 against Shamrock). I dont think there would have been a No 2.

I dont think it would have made a bit of difference to be honest with you. Hardly anyone actually watched UFC 1 live, everything that it is today has just been hyped up by the UFC to use as a storyline.

I don't think UFC would be near what it is today. Like someone said before- the show was basically ran by the Gracies back then. They'd be too damn embarassed to put on another one.

I like the discussion topic
Heres a theory- in UFC 2 Shamrock loses to Royce in the finals and we get a rubber match at 3- Like everything, MMA evolves slowly in the 1st 3 there were still people trying to prove the "Best Style" Shamrock was one of the best "rounded out " fighters of his time but we still had the " Pit fighters" and we still had Judo guys and lots of kickboxers. We still would have ended up here.
Shamrock would still be where he is because of his laid back attitude towards trainning. Royces stand up etc...
Getting sanctionned and adding rules and rounds and weight classes was the biggest factor in where the sport is now.

That's a good possibilty Rabi.
If Shamrock had won the first UFC his stock back in Japan would have increased 10 fold.

I think that Shamrock would have been elevated to a superstar status even beyond what Royce was. He had the look of a superhero and he had already established a reputation in the other big fighting org of the time, Pancrase, including holding a victory over Funaki at the time of UFC #1. He could have easily been marketed as the baddest man on the planet.

Of course, UFC 2 would roll around and at that time the politics between the Gracie factions was not what it later became. Expect Rickson to enter the tournament as a stronger competitor with a grudge match angle (I think this was always secretly a backup plan of Rorion's anyway). I don't think Shamrock gets past him but either way you have a big star in the winner and the UFC rolls on at about the same trajectory as it did before, except with a push for weight classes sooner.

Not true it would have made a huge difference, the showcase of Ground fighting and BJJ by Royce was remarkable and it showed that ground fighting can be just as good as stand-up. Granted Shamrock was a great ground fighter he was a decent stand-up fighter and if he did win BJJ and ground fighting as we know it today wouldn't exist like it is today. It would be there but not the extend it is now.

I think it may be easy to say that the UFC may not exist today but I do feel that MMA would still exist. The Gracie's are very proud and determined people and while Royce was the star of the UFC, there were other Gracie's that would have worked tirelessly to redeem the family name if Royce had lost.

MMA might not have existed or exploded until 2030, but I think it would have happened eventually, no matter the outcome of UFC 1.

Whilst watching it i did feel that Gracies name was being said more than any one elses. So maybe it was a showcase so had Royce lost, would The Gracie family only put on another event too avenge there losses?

So if UFC had somehow still taken off, the likes of heavy brazilian Ju Jitzu fighters such as Hazelett and Maia would not exsist?
