I think it's important to have current or retired mma fighters as commentators to provide their perspective throughout the fight it holds a lot of credibility. randy couture usually always calls the winner of the fight. which mma fighters down the road would you like to see as mma commentators.

i say forrest griffin would be great

I just want Maro Ranallo(sp?). I hate Mike Golberg. Oh and they should bring in Bas. Bas, Rogan, and Maro would be awsome. As for fighters, i'd say (randy not counting I assume) Rampage for his carisma.

I think Rich Franklin would be legit or maybe Anderson Silva and his translator

Yes he is, the only thing that would suck is hearing Goldberg crack endless math teacher jokes at him.

Randy when he actually retires and I think Swick would be awesome as well. Ufc should definetly bring in Bas Rutten!

I'd say Nate Quarry cause he is really funny in interviews, check out his tagg radio interview a couple months back. Franklin would be pretty good, or steal back Frank Mir from the WEC. Mauro is great but he a Steven Quardos are teaming up for shoxc or elitexc or something-xc.

I could so see Goldy doing that too.

Yes, I think Franklin would be good. Couture has already proven himself, as well as Bas. Although Frank Mir wasn't that impressive recently on the WEC, he has done a good job on previous UFC events.

Ya know, I would kind of like to see Severn do some commentating when he finally retires...Maybe Barnett and Henderson as well.

Alot of people are going to say Frank MIr but i dont really like him that much as a commentator he talks way too much id hate to be his announcing partener you would never get a word in. But Mir does really knows what hes talking about

No one has mentioned bringing back drunk ass Tank Abbot from way back. Come on guys I thought this was a serious discussion!

A tank Abbit and Rashad Evans combo would be pretty funny now that you mentioned Tank. WHat ever they do I hope neither Diaz brother becomes an announcer because they all around speak well nor they can't speak propper english.

How about Matt Hughes? I think he would know what he's talking about...I think it would be entertaining as hell to have Anderson Silva and his translator. By the time he finishes translating, he'll have to say something else. I think as a joke they should bring in Don Vito and just have him babble and scream and the fighters. "HEYYO!! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THESE STUPID HEADKICK GAMES!"

I think Rampage Jackson would be good, he's always fun to listen to. Also I could see Matt Serra getting into it, although I don't no if I could stand hearing him for a whole event.

Nor can you spell

Anyway i am not sure if the average person can understand rampage, i know it takes me awhile. Matt Serra would be a full event of suffering. Bas seems pretty loyal to IFL, Mauro would be great but he seems to dislike UFC. Swick, Franklin, Maybe someone like Jeremy Horn, but Randy will most likely become a commentator.

And as for all the Mike Goldberg haters, come on the guy does all the dirty work: tale of the tape, know the fighter's personal history, the play by play, while joe sits back offers his expertise every once in awhile and gets all the glory. I like joe better as a person and because of his knowledge, but Goldy does what many cant. Plus if i am not mistaken he turned down a nice gig in wwe to do ufc

I think everyone can appreciate what he does, but just wishes he could be more knowledgeable...how many years has he been doing this now? And he is still clueless on several topics. He needs to spend a month training each of the disciplines in order to truly appreciate them for what they are. If you are going to commentate on the sport, you need to know about it...end of story. If the NBA had a commentator that didn't know the difference between traveling and a double dribble, they wouldn't last long.

And if he turned down the WWE gig, it should mean that he is serious about his current role...shouldn't that be motivation enough for him to want to do his job well?

Joe gets the glory, because he is dynamic. He is the one who gives a true perspective in the fights...he is the one who interviews the fighters after the fights...they've tried doing that with less knowledgable people (Casey Kasem's daughter; can't remember her name) in the past, and it was painful to watch. He does interviews for the PPV preview footage, all access etc., so he does just as much of the extra stuff. And then there's Goldberg. He can read the hell out of a teleprompter and stat sheet...and when he actually makes a comment, he repeats something that he's heard either Rogan, Couture, or Joe Silva say...and he even occasionally get's that wrong. He's got the voice for the business, but if he wants to be respected in the community, he should apply himself and get educated.

Jason Mayhem Miller without a doubt.

Josh Barnett is an obvious one too.

Franklin and Horn are the two that come to mind for me. GSP do the french canadan broadcasts. Anderson could do the brazil shows

I would like to see Matt Serra or the Diaz brothers. I think the Diaz brothers would have a hard time staying at the "announcers table" though.

They would be taking off the headset and charging the cage a couple times a night.

Yes Goldy (the casual fight fan) does seem clueless at times but this is part of his job. Of course he knows the answer to a question that he has asked many times, but it is his job to set up Rogan (the expert) so that he can explain it to the viewing audience. One of the great things about the UFC commentators is that whether you watch all of the time or just some of the time you can understand whats going on. Goldy does come off as cheesy at times but again thats part of his job.

Serra could be good, Rampage is really funny, but his technical analysis of the fight isnt the tightest, as evidenced by his Pride commentating, but he was really funny.

There will never be a better team than Mauro Ranallo / Bas Rutten, though Stephen Quadros / Bas Rutten was ace too.

It really sucks hearing Quadros in Cage Rage now, he really knows the fighters, and can analyse the action so quickly with amazing precision and savvy, at times he does seem frustrated with the other idiots sitting next to him doing the commentary aswell, the other cage rage guys are dreadful!

Bas Rutten is the best..he knows his stuff he can predict whats coming up in a match and it usually happens...and Randy Couture after he retires whoever said it first thats good idea.

Josh Barnett was actually good when he did it for PRIDE a few times. Dan Henderson was freaking horrible, so he's out. I think Frank Mir does a decent job at WEC. But the most obvious moves for the UFC would be to get Bas Rutten and lock in Couture when he retires for good.

And if the Diaz brothers ever commentated, I'd shoot my ears out. "Ya know what I'm saying... ya know what I'm saying..." That's all you'd hear for the entire fight.

Did anyone notice that before the fights start when Goldberg and Rogan are standing there talking Goldberg gets like 2 inches from Rogans face? It makes me laugh every time.

I disagree...Rogan goes out of his way to explain things in detail, whether it's the type of submission, passing guard, or what the fighter needs to do to better his position. Goldy isn't usually needed for a setup...he will at times ask a casual-fan type question, but usually he's talking about things like how BJ has 5 brothers that share the name Jay...or that Spencer Fisher's hometown only has one stoplight. All this is interesting and all, but I don't want to hear about it when someone is getting punched in the face...and when he actually tries to add some technical talk, you end up getting "Travis Lutter is the Michael Jordan of BJJ". I'm not saying that I want to see Goldy get fired, just educated.

Yeah sorry about that post but it was kind of late and I was trying to move around part of my sentence with cut/paste and I forgot to proof read. What I meant to say was that the Diaz brothers are hard to understand because the can't speak for shit.

I agree that Randy is the right choice and Mike Goldberg can be annoying but is pretty good at what he does which is basically a human commercial for the UFC.

Boo I noticed that plus before the fight the same horrible song plays and has been for a couple years. Some screamo shit.

Previously mentioned:
Forrest Griffin: Has the personality certainly, but his voice is too deep and he sounds to me as if he is speaking through a mouthful of cotton.
Rich Franklin: I don't believe he has the charisma and would put peole to sleep.
Frank Mir: Mir does a good job with color commentary /technical analysis, but appears nervous in post-fight interviews. That will pass as he gains experience.
Bas Rutten: I don't think the UFC could pull him away from the IFL even if they wanted to.
Matt Serra: Has the personality and knowledge but I think the joisey accent, although entertaining at first, would become an annoyance.
Randy Couture: Randy does a good job when called upon and is good in post-fight interviews and regardless of whether he loses to Gonzaga will continue to be high profile in the UFC.

There is one name that I was surprised not to see mentioned and (as much as I would hate to say this) I feel he would be good in commentary as he has the knowledge, personality, and voice to put those together: Tito Ortiz.

With that said, I like the current team of Goldberg/Rogan. Yes Goldberg can get annoying with his trivial comments about the stoplight in Fishers hometown, but that's his job: Facts/stats/casual fan inquiries. His role is to UFC what Denis Miller was to MNF. And I would rather hear inane, trivial commentary while a fighter is getting beat down than the cameramen cutting to a shot of the audience while someone is getting stomped, that was so prevalent in Pride.
