USA 2DAY

USA TODAY Sports confirmed with UFC and Strikeforce officials that Mir has agreed to meet Strikeforce grand prix winner and former two-time Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) in the co-main event of September's Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy fight card, on Sept. 29 at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, and airs on Showtime.

That's a bit more exciting than the Sylvia fight! Makes me even more confused about the crossover accessibility thing, but still happy to see this fight in place for Cormier.

Jesus, how many times is Mir going to have his ass handed to him by a ridiculously strong wrestler before he stops going out of his way to fight them? I love the fight, though. Great matchup if Mir can stop Cormier from taking him down.

as the resident Mir fan i gotta say its a fun fight but mir has to be careful he struggles with big strong wrestlers and power punchers

"He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy."

Then maybe you should have just brought him to the UFC after the grand prix.

I with you man, i love Mir (even though i don't always pick him)...Cormier is strong but he's not the same as Lesnar. Cormier better watch his knees and ankles!!!!

Great fight. Cannot think of a better opponent for a surging Cormier.

Everybody better than Frank Mir at heavyweight is in a title fight, suspended, or fighting Frank Mir in September.

I want to see the fight hit the floor before Mir gets drilled in the face again. It will be interesting to see how Cormier deals with Mir's bottom game. I'm assuming Daniel might want to keep it standing, and follow the same game plan as Lesnar 2, Carwin, and Dos Santos.

good fight!

Mir gets the (assumed) upset victory via Kimura. Man I've been going on about Vera beating Shogun too, so nobody listen to me, I'm obviously going all nostalgic and picking with my heart

yea, that's crazy

always rooting for Mir, but i'll probably be picking Cormier. Hard being a Mir fan, sometimes. Other times we get to watch him break a fools arm.

Wow so disappointed by this...

was really looking forward to seeing Timmy getting destroyed!

Mir should win this if he can stay away from Cormier's power. Mir can't take punches at all. One good punch and Mir is doing the chicken dance....two or three good punches and the ref is diving in to save his dazed ass. I would like to see Mir win this one.

Mir gets killed. He never gets Cormier down and gets KOed.

Is Mir still going to be coming back to the UFC though regardless if he wins/loses?

Yeah, the SF HW division is gone except for the one off for the tourney winner(Cormier).

Hell of a fight, but one that I can't see Mir winning. Cormier wins this and he might just get himself a UFC title shot.

The UFC should have learned when Chuck crossed over and got KOed by Rampage back in the day. I see a repeat....Mir goes down and goes out in the first.

Sylvia is now fighting a half rotten pumpkin.

....maybe he'll get a win.

Mir is making a serious mistake by taking this fight in my opinion.

Its a terrible match up for him. I smell Cormier beating his ass

For those who think Mir is not making a smart decision, I'm going to assume that his new wallet size says otherwise.

Strikeforce lucked out. Ufc could have gave cormier a can

I do believe if cormier wins this fight. When he comes to the ufc he deserves a title shot right off the bat

Agreed if JDS wins. Cain and Cormier will never fight.

I'm gonna love seeing Mir's gameplan coming into this.
Cormier i'm sure is the shorter of the two. He has a tight, compact frame, and I think that will make him hard to take down. On the otherside Mir should,I think have a good reach advantage here.

I need to be in Frank's corner to tell him "Look man...you're a big strong BJJ badass. Cormier is strong and hits hard. We've seen you try to stand. Yes, you ko'd Nogueira, but don't let it go to your head. Please do what you do best and BJJ allllllllllllllllll the way"
