In a column that appeared on the front page of OnMilwaukee.com, "award-winning" sports columnist Dave Begel reported that at some point "the other night", he was "channel surfing and inadvertently saw the END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!"

What is this apocalyptic catalyst? The collapse of the American economy? North Korea's nuclear weapons? The two Milwaukee police officers shot in their heads today in Milwaukee?

Of course not. It's the sport of mixed martial arts.

Mr. Begel, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. That wasn't even well thought out, it was one of the most re-actionary and over the top things I've read in a while and it was even long enough to expanded on the points in an attempt to you know, make it look like he had a single solitary clue what he was talking about, but maybe I expect too much from sport writers...

Plus what kind of sports writer (self respecting or otherwise) has only just discovered MMA, he appeared to be surprised by its very existance as much as by its content.

Oh well should the world actually come to an end because of two men fighting within a rule-set with in a cage it'll be be worth it in my mind coz we got to see fights like Griffin-Bonnar and Guida/Griffin

One year ago, articles like this would pop up at least once a week. Today the lack of these articles shows that mma is gaining more and more respect each year.
