Following the controversial end to their fight, Mike Pierce's trainer claims that the CABMMA will review the submission stoppage to determine if Palhares acted out of line as he held the heel hook.

I don't see what the big deal is, that wasn't nearly as bad as when Palhares fought Drwal.

Pierce tried to tap earlier in the fight. Also he continued holding the lock even when the referee was on top of Palharres.

Needing to tap the ref a few seconds after the ref called the fight is kind of a big deal. Especially when the ref was trying to physically break the submission hold.

This. I hope Mike's knee is alright. I get the impression from Pierce, that he'd be the last guy to complain about a stoppage. You could see how upset he was when Palhares finally let go.

Been said a thousand times, but Palhares needs to be fined &/or suspended before he ruins a guy's future in the sport

I didn't think he kept the submission on that long.

If I were Dana, I'd give Palhares his walking papers. It may not have been as bad this time but he's making the same mistake again and again

Continuing to hold a submission after the guy taps is one thing. That's sort of understandable with guys using ghost taps as a way to escape submissions now-a-days.

Holding a sub after the ref tries to stop the fight is irresponsible and honestly a bit fucked up.

I haven't watched these fights for myself yet, but if it is as bad as Pierce's camp is saying, a fine and a suspension would be in order.

I didnt feel the length was the issue. It was the extra crank when the ref was obviously there.

This guy just doesn't seem to learn

Agree 100% with the sentiment that he needs to be curbed before he potentially destroys another fighters career.

I can't believe that I agree with tepid on this one. Yeah it might have been held for an additional second, maybe a second and a half, after the ref jumped in but I don't think it was outrageous like I was lead to believe

that being said, not awarding the SOTN bonus is justified

I think the smart play is to hold until the ref forcibly breaks it up. I know it won't make you the most popular fighter but there are too many examples of fighters tapping and claiming to not have. CB Dolloway tapped twice on TUF and claimed he didn't on BOTH occasions.

He should be fined for sure. The replay shows the ref putting his hands on Palhares and then he cranks it harder before finally letting it go. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Not outrageous???

If you have ever been put into kneebar or any kind of submission you would know the pain and potential damage an extra second or 2 would cause

dude was messed up for doing that, hope he gets cut honestly.

If something isn't done he is the kind of guy who will create a situation that lead to new "NFL" style rules.

Palhares has a history of doing this, MMA or straight BJJ matches... he likes to hurt people. He always claims he doesn't know, which is total bullshit.... refs are laying on top of him his opponents tapping multiple times, and he doesn't know? Well if that's the case and he is that stupid, he shouldn't be allowed to compete.. IMO he's a little mentally unstable and just likes hurting people. I'm glad he lost $50K for that. Anybody that says it’s not a big deal is delusional; every time he pulls this shit he puts his opponent in a position for a career threatening injury. The guy disgusts me.

My thoughts are that he should be suspended up until Pierce is healed and able to return to fighting - whether it be 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 2 years. Once Pierce is healed and back to training, the UFC should book a rematch as I believe Pierce and his head trainer want a rematch. This will punish Palhares and give Pierce a consolation prize - chance to revenge the late release.

i dont think they should over turn the submission, bottom line is Paul Yaris got that heel hook fair and square. where he went wrong was not letting go of it when the ref jumped in. good riddance, that guy is as unsportsmanlike as paul daley was when he punched Kos.
