Miguel Torres: 'My fighting style would cause Dominick Cruz nightmares

Once the king of the hill in the Bantamweight division, Miguel Torres was an unstoppable force at 135-pounds. During his heyday, Torres ran through all contenders competing in the now defunct World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) organization.
Torres won and defended his title three times in the midst of his remarkable 17 fight win streak. What's even more impressive? Of those 17 wins, 15 of them were finishes.
Since that remarkable run, Torres has gone an even 3-3 with his most recent win coming over Nick Pace at UFC 139 back on November 19, 2011. However, Torres most recently won an even more important fight, his job back with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after an inappropriate Twitter joke was cause for UFC President Dana White to cut the mullet-wearing brawler.
With a second chance to compete in the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) stage of them all, Torres says he regrets his Twitter postings and looks forward to a new beginning inside the Octagon, starting with Michael McDonald at UFC 145 on April 21, 2012.
And though he knows he has his hands full with "Mayday," who is on a seven fight win streak of his own, that hasn't stopped the former champion from looking into his crystal ball and seeing a future title fight opposite current UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz.

I'd rather see Torres vs Faber before anything, but I do like Torres' chances in a fight with Cruz

Torres is one of those textbook example "awesome streak until the UFC comes along" fighters, which is weird, as most ex-WEC fighters seem to be tearing a streak through the UFC.
True enough, according to the legendary Wikipedia, there are 40 fights on his resume, yet only the last seven have been 'blue named' opponents i.e you can click a link to their name.
I think Dominick Cruz's style would cause Miguel Torres nightmares, but would be a great fight. Cruz should change his nickname to "the energiser bunny"

What do you mean? He's facing the same competition he was back in the WEC. The only difference is the merger, which only effected the LW division roster/competition wise.

Fair enough, ok, Torres is more of a textbook example of a fighter with a great record until some decent competition comes along.
I like him as a fighter, he has energy and heart, I wouldn't get in a surprise van with him though.

Torres has an 8 inch reach advantage on Dominick Cruz. I think his style would give Cruz big problems. Cruz's infamous footwork will amount to little offensively considering that he'll have to collapse the pocket to land, whereas the footwork is based on dancing outside people's ranges. Cruz's route to victory is with takedowns IMO

Cruz's footwork usually amounts to little offense against anyone. either way I think torres does possess a style that poses problems for any fighter but he does have holes in his game so while i think he can win i'm not saying he would win against cruz

If the fight went to the ground torres would sub Cruz 100% standing i currently don't see anyone beating Cruz at 135. Now if Aldo moved down he would crush Cruz or maybe Diego nunes

Gotta disagree with all of this, except I do agree about the part "don't see anyone beating cruz at 135" even though I think I am taking it out of context. I don't know where Torres subs Cruz 100% of the time when Cruz has been subbed once in his illustrious career and Torres has one sub win in the last 4 years. As others have said, Cruz would win on take downs, so this fight is definitely going to the ground, perhaps with one of his many suplexes from against the cage.
As for Aldo moving down, he would probably die trying to make 135 as he has stated he will eventually move up to 155 because his body can't take the cuts to 145 much longer.
I am completely unable to make a comment on Nunes, as I have no idea why or where he entered into the scene as a 135 contender

Two things Miguel. Number one....worry about McDonald first...you might not even make it through that one. Number two...if you somehow do get to face Cruz...it is you who might be having nightmares.
