Defending his Maximum Fighting Championship welterweight title for the first time, Pat Healy for the second time defeated top prospect Ryan Ford by split decision after a five-round war on Friday night in Canada.
Taking the original fight on short notice, Healy had a full camp to prepare for Ford this time and it showed as he was able to take down the powerful wrestler multiple times in the bout, while also taking his back several times.
Ford was able to overpower Healy at many turns in the fight, but the Team Quest fighter used his wealth of experience to stay out of trouble and work for position, while pawing at the Canadian with submission attempts in numerous rounds.
The final round saw a back and forth war, but as the fight was closing Healy actually locked on a "twister" that saw Ford's neck wrenched backwards, and if not for the time expiring the champion may have caused the tapout. LINK
