Well with another couple upsets at UFC76, the trend continues and it all started with Matt Serra over GSP, I guess more and more fighters are taking his underdog status and winning, here's a look at the upsets since Matt Serra upset GSP.
Matt Serra over Georges St. Pierre
Gabriel Gonzaga over Mirko Cro Cop
Houston Alexander over Keith Jardine
Quiton Jackson over Chuck Liddell
Tito Ortiz draw Rashad Evans(I picked Tito)
Randy Couture over Gabriel Gonzaga(I picked Couture but Gonzaga is a killer)
Patrick Cote over Kendal Grove
Cheick Kongo over Mirko Cro Cop
Chris Leben over Terry Martin(The old Chris Leben is back)
Jon Fitch over Diego Sanchez(Upset because Diego, was coming off a loss and looked like he was going to win)
Forrest Griffin over Mauricio Rua
Keith Jardine over Chuck Liddell
Yea I know some of these fights might not be the biggest upsets but there still upsets in my mind, I mean fighters that were the favourite lost, whats next, this is definetly the year of the underdogs.

Quiton Jackson over Chuck Liddell
That's not an upset dude, I don't care how much a Chuck Liddel fan someone is...He had a win over him so he would be the favorite...

well if your saying that then I guess the fight between BJ Penn and Jens Pulver should be considered an upset than because Jens already beat him.

No not really...BJ and Rampage fought Jens & Chuck when they were young......The difference is Rampage beat Chuck WHILE he was young but BJ & Rampage have both gotten better and Rampage has never decreased in skill like Jens has after his win...

so nogueira would have been an underdog in their second fight? (against barnett)
ps. diego vs fitch... fitch wasnt an underdog, the odds were no where near underdog status

Man you should look at the odds before you start claiming upsets everywhere.
Fitch - Sanchez was no way near an upset. That's just stupid to say.
Leben - Martin wasn't an upset either. Neither was Couture - Gonzaga... LOOK AT THE ODDS.
And Sokoudjou was the one who started the string of upsets or if you want to be nitty picky James Lee started it in the same event by upsetting Travis Wiuff despite being a replacement with 1 weeks notice.

I don't think those fights were won by the underdog...Rampage, if anything, deserved to be a heavy favorite over Liddell because of the way that Rampage beat him the first time. Ortiz vs Evans wasn't exactly an "underdog" win, because A)It was a draw, and B)I think that fight was very close to even in terms of odds of someone winning. And in the case of Couture vs Gonzaga and Jon Fitch vs Diego Sanchez, Couture and Fitch stood a better chance then most people gave them.

Ignorance is really exposed around these here parts, I like it. No offense to the OP, you gotta roll with the punches with the mma geeks, esp if you are inaccurate.

i think u forgot tim sylvia vs randy because of HOW he beat him
and also franklin silva
Taylor8766 , if u had half a brain u would know that the upset trend started wit randy at ufc 68 when he whopped tim silyvia for five rounds standing up matt serra jus followed suit when he whooped GSP but thats ok cuz once serra takes care of hughes its gonna be GSP vs serra II and then the upset will come by way of a 10 second KO U READ IT HERE FIRST

What do you have? One quarter of a brain? Less? Go watch Pride 33. That's all I'm going to say.

If my memory serves me correctly, Sokojou knocking out Nogueira was the start of the 07 upsets

There have been a lot lately but some of those on there really arn't. The Randy Couture/GG fight was a load of crap to say he was the underdog. It was just a bunch of Couture haters using a guy that was able to beat an aging CC to say Couture doesnt stand a chance. I made $500 of Couture in that fight and also picked the results perfect; 3rd round KO.
Serra also may have made an upset, but upsets should never make you a champ in one fight. He didnt have to make his way up the ladder at all to get a shot out getting a lucky punch of GSP and thats completely wrong. See how long his career lasts after Hughes beats him then I will hear the end of his fanbase.
to all those who say rampage was the fav. your wrong i live in las vegas and i bet 20 on rampage at a casino and chuck was slightly favored i think it was rampage +110 chuck -120 or something really close to that. so it doesnt matter what us fake experts think (even though we all thought rampage should of been favored) the fact is he was an under dog
and i forget and am to lazy to look it up which ever came first was the start of the year of the upset - pride 33 or tim vs couture
Fitch was a slight under dog too.
Randy was favored in the GG fight.
Serra might of had the most controversial upset ( getting the belt in the process) but i wasnt the first upset...
