Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenomenon and multi-time Abu Dhabi champion Marcelo Garcia has been announced as the newest acquisition of promoters Fight Entertainment Group, which hosts Saturday's K-1 "Dynamite!! USA" event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

A longtime crowd favorite on the grappling circuit, Garcia will make his mixed martial arts on September 17 in Japan. No opponent has been named for Garcia yet; while the Brazilian, who grapples at 170 pounds, has not decided if he will fight down at 155-161 pounds or up at 183 pounds per K-1’s currently utilized weight divisions.

That's great news. With how popular MMA is becoming, I'm sure most top submission grapplers that haven't made the transition over will. I'm a little curious how well his striking will be at that point though.

True. He seems like a good learner, look how good he is on the ground. Maybe with some good training he could stay alive on his feet. I just hope that unlike most other popular bjj guys he'll cut weight and fight smaller.
