You guys realize that there is other MMA outside of the UFC, right?

Try wins over BJ Penn and Rich Franklin.... Not to mention an undefeated record that isnt full of inexperienced fighters.

He's an awesome fighter and you have to be blind to think otherwise. He has amazing striking, he's very technical and almost impossible to hit. He's got a good ground game and he's just overall very well rounded. He's beaten BJ, Bonnar, Franklin, and Nakamura (who some considered top 10 when Machida beat him). So far he's cruised through all of his opponents. I think there's BIG things to see from Machida in the near future.

I can see where the Soko hype is coming from, I mean he just KTFO two top 10 fighters, but he's kind of like Houston Alexander in that we don't know how great his cardio or ground game is. Machida has proven to have a great ground game and good cardio.

machida is definately top ten IMO, the guys style just isnt pleasing to the american fans. the winner of his fight with soku is going to be right smack in the middle of the LHW title picture.

Machida is overrated. LOOK at all the top LHW's he beat. Bonnar and Nakamura. WOW, nether of them are in my top 15

His two biggest wins were over BJ and Rich. BJ is in a COMPLETE different weight class. try 4-5 weightclasses down. Rich is overrated IMO. He has a weaker chin and has bad striking that does good enough to get him wins sometimes. Not a great fighter IMO. He's 2nd in a weak division in the UFC.

Machida is boring. He hasn't finished a fight in awhile. Niether has Karo Parysian since coming to the UFC. It's a double standard. If Machida's in your top 5 then Karo should be too especially since he deserves a title shot.

Machida has just recently been brought to more of a spotlight position in the ufc, but has fought tough competetion from the start. He's no joke.

I hear this "machida hype" alot from more recent fans of mma ( not saying you're new ) as well as fans focused purely on the UFC. Can't say it really bothers me, cuz it's kinda fun to point people in other directions. I sometimes miss the days of finding fights I hadn't seen before.

Just because a fighter doesn't KTFO their opponents every single fight doesn't mean they are not great fighters. I'm willing to take an Av. bet for the Soko/Machida fight.

I think you are mixing up opinion and fact.........

BTW, BJ wasnt in a completely different weight class when he fought Machida. Thats a ridiculous point. They fought at 205... Both weighed the same... Wheres the advantage?

So if Soko wins, he's your av. for a month, if Machida wins, he's mine? I can live with that bet. If that's what you want to do, Ill take it

what you mean wheres the advantage? BJ is a natural LW/WW. Machida was fighting at his normal weight and had the size advantage probably.

When you fight out your weight, your gonna lose

not exactly... If you win, you get to make him use whatever avatar you want (they are usually humiliating at best)....Vice versa if he wins... They are good fun.

To be fair... And I'm just trying to use your logic here... He's done more in the UFC than Hendo, Wand, or Shogun has... But most folks don't have a problem putting them in their top10...

I guess the difference is Machida doesn't get the Eric Shaffers, Elvis Sinocics, and Sean Salmons... He makes everyone fight his fight, and is damn good at what he does...

His striking is on another level, he's got a great groundgame, good sprawl, elusive like a mutahfuka, dominates all his fights and is undefeated against a bunch of proven fighters (like mentioned before)...

What else does he have to do? KO Elvis or Ross Pointon to get his much deserved respect?

Hate to break it to you, but BJ's natural weight isnt 155... In fact its taken an entire year of hard work to get his body back to where he can make that weight. He has said that his natural weight, now that he is a grown man, sits at around 190.

So, again, your point doesnt make sense. But thats okay. Im not here to judge.

Well if his best weight to fight at is 170/155, I don't know why he's expected to beat somebody who's a natural 205 who still probably cuts to make weight,.

I see where you are coming from, I still think he deserves credit for beating a guy with Penn's skills, regardless of the weightclass.

And, I also unfortunately disagree about Franklin... I think he is in a situation where he is the best in the weight class... aside from Silva.

Agree to disagree bro?

Machida is a real good fighter for sure, and the only reason that i don't have him in my top 10 is because the LHW division is stacked !!

Shogun and Hendo have had 1 fight! Hendo fought the best at 205. Wandy hasn't even fought yet unless your counting the old days.

Machida has beaten nobodies in the UFC. Nakamura was the only decent guy he's foughten at 205 in the UFC that's actually good.

Just something I feel I need to point out, Machida has finished fights, he is one of two people to beat(and wow he finished) Rich Franklin. He has fought in K-1, beating Michael Mcdonald and Sam Greco, neither are pushovers. Nakamura, has not been KO'd and has only been TKO'd twice and one was due to injury, the other was against some would say a decent striker Wanderlei Silva. He's beaten Igor Vovchanchyn, Yuki Kondo, Kevin Randleman, Stephan Leko and Murilo Bustamante. He's also fought Josh Barnett, Rogerio Minitaro x2, and Dan Henderson, not the resume of a pushover. I don't feel he's over hyped, I feel people don't know who he is so now people deem it hype, don't get why people think what they don't know is hype.

i have machida at number 9 in top ten, franklin is no pushover nakumura is no push over and he best both of them decisevly and not to mention his undefeated record over better then average competition.

over hyped, dont think so

he is definately some where in the top 15 if you dissagree with that then your opinion has lost all credibility with me.

I agree. I just have a problem with people putting him in the top 5 when he hasn't beaten anybody in the Top 10 yet at 205. Makes no sense.

The reason i have machida in my top 5 is the 2 guys I know .who actually compete in MMA .said that no one wants to fight him. He just has the knack for making people look bad. Kindo of like the MMA Winky Wright. Props to Sokoudjou for stepping up/

i had nakumura at ten before machida beat him, but i agree with you on not putting him in top 5 until he fights better comp.
