A month after their title fight was shut down due to injury, and then card cancellation, it appears Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin have a new dance date.

Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF), the Strikeforce middleweight champion, and Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) are being targeted for an as yet unannounced Strikeforce card on Jan. 12. Sources close to the promotion on Wednesday told ( that the fight booking is in the process of being finalized.

Rockhold and Larkin were scheduled to meet in the co-main event of Strikeforce's Nov. 3 show in Oklahoma City, but that card was scrapped not long after Rockhold pulled out with a wrist injury.

I hope Larkin has been working on his TDD.

If this is the last Strikeforce event I hope they put all the belts on the line. I'd love to see Gil, Cormier and Rousey on the card too.

Larkin's an athletic striker coming down from 205 after a (steroid-induced) beating from Mo Lawal. He looked good in his inaugural 185 fight, but this'd be a 5 rounder against a gifted and super durable Luke Rockhold.

There's no question Rockhold deserves a UFC shot - he surprised the hell out of folks by taking the belt from Jacare, and since then has looked rather good. Tim Kennedy is a difficult stylistic matchup for anyone, so there's no shame in Rockhold grinding him out in 5R.

Rockhold took some heavy heaters from both Jacare and Kennedy and just kept on going. He not only has the chin and the cardio to last, he's got the fight IQ to change levels and slow the tempo of the fight before eating too many shots in a combo. And that's what knocks out most tough young dudes - not a single blast but several in a row.

It's the kind of fight that's risky enough to be worthwhile for Rockhold given Strikeforce's limited roster and Larkin's power, but is a logical bet for the champ to retain his belt due to his overall talent and wins against better opponents. If Rockhold takes this and wins in a rematch against Jacare, he'll be the Gilbert Melendez of the SF MW division. In some ways, he already is.
